Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Cost Controls Specialist to join our East Water Region business line on a Part-Time Basis.
The Cost Controls Specialist is responsible for monitoring, managing, and controlling project costs to ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints. This role involves tracking project expenditures, forecasting costs, preparing cost reports, and providing support for cost control strategies. The Cost Controls Specialist works closely with project teams to guarantee that cost management processes are followed and that potential cost overruns are identified and addressed proactively.
For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of AECOM offices in multiple locations across the United States.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Track and monitor project costs, ensuring they align with approved budgets and project plans
  • Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports, including budget variances, forecasts, and cost projections
  • Provide regular updates to project managers, stakeholders, and senior management regarding the financial status of projects
  • Analyze cost trends and recommend corrective actions to keep projects within budget
  • Review and update project budgets as needed, incorporating any changes due to scope adjustments, unforeseen conditions, or change orders
  • Collaborate with project teams to assess potential risks and impacts on the project budget, providing recommendations for cost mitigation
  • Review and assess the cost impact of change orders, confirming they are accurately documented and tracked
  • Utilize cost control software and tools to track and report on project costs and performance
  • Maintain project cost control documentation, including cost breakdowns, purchase orders, invoices, and contracts
  • Guarantee that cost control processes comply with program policies, industry standards, and relevant regulations
  • Ensure all financial transactions related to the project are well-documented and auditable
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Finance or a related field + 8 years of relevant Cost controls and/or financial experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years in construction project management or related roles, with a focus on managing interfaces in large, complex projects
  • Experience with project controls and financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, Unifier, Primavera P6 or similar tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of civil construction processes, contracts, and project delivery methods
