Remote Product Security Engineer information

What is a remote product security engineer?

Remote Product Security Engineers are professionals responsible for ensuring the security of a company's software products while working from a remote location. They identify and mitigate security risks, conduct vulnerability assessments, and collaborate with development teams to implement security best practices throughout the product lifecycle. Their goal is to protect applications and user data from potential threats, often using a combination of automated tools and manual analysis. Working remotely, they utilize communication and collaboration tools to stay connected with team members and stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote product security engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Product Security Engineer, you need a strong background in cybersecurity, software development, and risk assessment, usually supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with security tools such as static and dynamic analysis scanners, vulnerability management systems, and certifications like CISSP or OSCP is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills set top candidates apart, especially in remote and cross-functional team environments. These skills and qualities are crucial to proactively identify, address, and communicate security risks, ensuring that products remain secure throughout their lifecycle.

How does a remote product security engineer typically collaborate with development teams to ensure secure software delivery?

As a Remote Product Security Engineer, you'll frequently work alongside development teams through virtual meetings, code reviews, and secure design consultations. Your role involves proactively identifying security risks, advising on best practices, and helping to integrate security tools into the CI/CD pipeline. Effective communication and documentation skills are essential, as you'll often translate technical security requirements into actionable steps for developers. While remote, you'll leverage collaboration platforms and asynchronous communication to stay closely aligned with cross-functional teams and ensure security is embedded throughout the product lifecycle.

Product Manager, Networking & Software (Electrical Utility Products)

NovaTech LLC

Lenexa, KS โ€ข On-site, Remote

Full-time

Re-posted yesterday

Job description

At NovaTech Automation, we build the hardware and software that keep the electrical grid running-the systems behind the substations and controls that power homes, hospitals, and businesses every day. It's meaningful, high-stakes work, and we do it with a team that's smart, grounded, and genuinely enjoys solving hard problems together. If you're looking for a place where your work actually matters and where good ideas get heard no matter where they come from, we'd love to meet you.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- The full life of our networking and software products - strategy, roadmap, launch, and the tough call on when to retire something.
- The customer's point of view. You'll visit utility sites, sit on advisory boards, and turn what you hear into real product requirements.
- Cross-team alignment. You'll bring sales, engineering, and manufacturing to the same page without having authority over any of them.
- The numbers. Pricing, budgets, profitability, and the KPIs that tell us a product is working - adoption, satisfaction, market share.
- Go-to-market. Positioning, sales enablement, beta programs, and launches that actually land in the power-utility market.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-haves
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of product management for technical B2B products - in power utility, industrial automation, or an adjacent industry.
- A real track record of launches you carried from concept to market.
- Hands-on experience with networking devices or substation-automation equipment.
Nice-to-haves
- A master's in engineering or an MBA.
- Deep familiarity with grid edge and substation applications.
THE TECHNICAL SIDE
This role is the subject-matter expert for networking devices in substation and grid edge use. You'll want a strong grip on Ethernet networks, routing, and cybersecurity best practices, plus familiarity with the automation protocols our world runs on - DNP3, IEC 61850, and C37.118. You'll also keep an eye on IEEE and IEC standards as they move.
WHY NOVATECH
We build for the grid - the stuff that has to work every second of every day. We run on four values: integrity, teamwork, service, and innovation. This is a fully remote role open across the Americas, with light travel (up to 15%) for the fun parts - customer visits, trade shows, and getting in the room with the people who use what we build.
