Overview
Join us in leading the change!
EPE is looking to recruit a Principal or Senior Principal Engineer with a background in Generation and Load Interconnection, and Transmission Planning for the Western Interconnection region (WECC). In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.
Responsibilities
How you can make an impact
โ€ข Perform complex interconnection studies including load flow, short circuit and transient stability across multiple ISOs and Utilities in the Western Interconnected region (WECC).
โ€ข Review ISO and/or Utility interconnection study results, replicate findings and identify errors or alternative mitigations that could impact assigned network upgrades.
โ€ข Support generation, large load and merchant transmission developers navigate interconnection processes across the Western Interconnected System.
โ€ข Serve as a subject matter expert on interconnection related studies and stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes.
โ€ข Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided.
โ€ข Develop net new and enhance existing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies.
โ€ข Support the development of new products and services
Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what's needed:
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
  • Experience in IBR modelling, transmission planning and/or interconnection studies.
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages:PSLF, PowerWorld, PSSE, PSCAD, TARA and ASPEN
  • Experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.
  • Active participation in industry taskforces and/or working groups.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation

Beneficial Experience:
  • Direct experience working at an ISO, Utility, Developers or on behalf of these entities as a consultant.
  • Direct experience with Utilities, TSPs, and Regulators in WECC would be considered a plus.
  • Experience with the interconnection of renewable and conventional generation studies and processes.
  • Experience with large load interconnection studies and processes.
  • Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL) would be considered a plus.
