Remote Privileged Access Management information

What is remote privileged access management?

Remote Privileged Access Management (PAM) refers to the tools, policies, and processes used to secure, monitor, and control access to critical systems and data by users with elevated permissions, particularly when they are working remotely. PAM solutions help organizations reduce the risks associated with privileged accounts, which are often targeted by cyber attackers. By managing and auditing remote access, organizations can ensure that only authorized personnel can access sensitive resources, and all actions are logged for compliance and security purposes. PAM is an essential part of cybersecurity, especially in environments with remote administrators or third-party vendors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote privileged access management professional?

To thrive as a Remote Privileged Access Management professional, you need expertise in cybersecurity principles, identity and access management, and experience with PAM solutions, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like CyberArk, BeyondTrust, or Thycotic, as well as relevant certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+, is highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and clear communication are crucial for effectively managing risks and collaborating with IT teams. These competencies are essential for safeguarding sensitive systems and data, ensuring compliance, and preventing security breaches in increasingly remote and complex environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote privileged access management professionals, and how are they typically addressed?

Remote Privileged Access Management (PAM) professionals often encounter challenges such as ensuring secure remote access to critical systems, managing credentials across diverse environments, and maintaining compliance with security policies. These challenges are typically addressed by implementing robust multi-factor authentication, using centralized PAM solutions to monitor and control privileged sessions, and regularly auditing access logs. Collaboration with IT security, compliance teams, and system administrators is also essential to stay ahead of evolving threats and ensure best practices are consistently applied.

What is the difference between Remote Privileged Access Management vs Remote Security Analyst?

Remote Privileged Access Management specialists focus on controlling and monitoring privileged accounts remotely, ensuring secure access to critical systems. Remote Security Analysts analyze security data and respond to threats. While both roles require security certifications and involve remote work, PAM emphasizes access control, whereas Security Analysts focus on threat detection and incident response.

Job description

Bring more to life.

At Danaher, our work saves lives. And each of us plays a part. Fueled by our culture of continuous improvement, we turn ideas into impact - innovating at the speed of life.

Our 60,000+ associates work across the globe at more than 15 unique businesses within life sciences, diagnostics, and biotechnology.

Are you ready to accelerate your potential and make a real difference? At Danaher, you can build an incredible career at a leading science and technology company, where we're committed to hiring and developing from within. You'll thrive in a culture of belonging where you and your unique viewpoint matter.

Learn about theDanaher Business Systemwhich makes everything possible.

The Director, Identity Security & Privileged Access Management is responsible for operationalizing and driving Danaher's global Privileged Access Management program - architecting and engineering PAM patterns, governing the platform and its exceptions, and driving adoption across OpCos so that every privileged human and non-human identity is discovered, vaulted, monitored, and governed.

This position reports to the Global Chief Information Security Officer and is part of the enterprise-wide Danaher Information Security (DIS) team; this is a remote associate role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Design PAM reference patterns - JIT/JEA, session isolation and recording, vault topology, break-glass, and non-human-identity/secrets management - that other teams adopt.

  • Lead hands-on engineering of PAM platform configuration standards, integrations, and automation, including discovery, onboarding, and credential rotation.

  • Govern privileged-account onboarding standards, exception requests, and break-glass procedures; drive remediation of coverage gaps across business units.

  • Partner across identity, security operations, cloud, DevOps, infrastructure, and audit teams - each with their own architecture - to integrate privileged-access controls.

  • Own the PAM platform and vendor relationship; report program status, risk posture, and metrics to security leadership and audit stakeholders.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • 14+ years of cybersecurity experience with a focus on privileged access management or identity and access management.

  • Experience designing and driving enterprise or global PAM architecture, operating model, or control framework - including governance and long-term sustainability - across multiple business units.

  • Hands-on experience engineering enterprise PAM platforms (such as CyberArk, BeyondTrust, or Delinea): privileged-account onboarding, vaulting, session management, rotation, and integrations.

  • Experience working independently across IAM, security operations, cloud, infrastructure, and audit teams - each with their own architecture - to reduce privileged-access risk and support control evidence.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience governing non-human / service-account and secrets management at scale.

  • CISSP, CISM, or a relevant PAM platform leadership/practitioner certification.

  • Experience managing globally distributed or matrixed teams and services.
