Responsibilities
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards
  • Performs Cardiac Ultrasound, Transthoracic Echocardiography-Adult, Transthoracic Echocardiography-Pediatric, Stress Echocardiography-Exercise and Pharmacologic, Transesophageal Echocardiography procedures- Operating room, Heart Cath lab, and EP lab, High level disinfection of transesophageal probes, Vascular Ultrasound, Extracranial, Intracranial, Peripheral Arterial, Peripheral Venous, Visceral
  • Responsible for daily operation of the Cardiovascular department's activities ensuring the comprehensive activities involved in the area are completed in a timely manner with patient care and safety in mind
  • Help plan and coordinate the daily operations of the Cardiovascular department
  • Maintains efficient workflow while ensuring high quality imaging
  • Posses the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Provides thorough documentation of all procedures performed including patient demographics.
  • Accesses the Clinical Information System to review patient's current clinical situation and medical history prior to performing the procedure
  • Optimize imaging parameters and adjust techniques based on patient condition
  • Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to diagnostic findings
  • Ensure accurate image acquisition and labeling in procedure clips, and structured reporting as per department protocol
  • Administer ultrasound contrast agents in accordance with facility policy and scope of practice
  • Administer agitated saline for bubble studies in accordance with facility policy and scope of practice
  • Recognize, demonstrate, document and communicate critical findings which may result in limb loss or patient mortality per department policy
  • Provides accurate preliminary reports to physicians per department protocols
  • Supports timely patient throughput to minimize delays in care
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Infant- Toddler/Preschool School, Age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal.
  • Work assigned schedule including overtime and call as required
  • Participate in on-call coverage as required by department staffing needs
  • Exhibits an acceptable work ethic as evidenced by regular and prompt attendance following all timekeeping/clocking policies
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person
  • Operates and maintains ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image quality.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Cleans and monitors equipment, and reports equipment failure/problems to supervisor
  • Participates in departmental research projects, quality monitoring and statistical Information as assigned
  • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
  • Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Responds to overhead pages and digital pages
  • Responds to electronic message system while on duty
  • Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical record
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
  • Assists in maintaining lab accreditation and regulatory readiness
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved cardiac or vascular ultrasound training program from an accredited institution Required OR
  • 2 years of cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience Required
  • RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Upon Hire Required and
  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Upon Hire Required or
  • RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer Upon Hire Required and
  • RVS - Registered Vascular Sonographer with the Cardiovascular Credentialing International Upon Hire Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
