Remote Precision Machining information

What is remote precision machining?

Remote precision machining refers to the operation and management of machining processes, such as milling, turning, or drilling, from a remote location using advanced software and internet-connected machines. Operators can monitor, control, and adjust CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines without being physically present in the workshop. This approach improves flexibility, increases safety, and allows for real-time problem-solving and quality assurance. Remote precision machining is becoming more common with advancements in automation and industrial IoT (Internet of Things) technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Precision Machining Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Precision Machining Specialist, you need strong technical skills in machining processes, blueprint reading, and material properties, typically supported by vocational training or a relevant technical degree. Familiarity with CNC programming software, CAD/CAM systems, and remote monitoring tools is essential for efficient operation and troubleshooting. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication are vital soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, precise manufacturing outcomes and effective collaboration in a remote or distributed work environment.

What is the difference between Remote Precision Machining vs Remote CNC Machining?

AspectRemote Precision MachiningRemote CNC Machining
CertificationsOften requires certifications in precision manufacturing and machiningTypically requires CNC programming and operation certifications
Work EnvironmentPrecision-focused, detailed work often involving complex partsMachine operation and programming, often involving CNC machines
Industry UsageUsed in aerospace, medical devices, and high-precision industriesCommon in manufacturing, automotive, and industrial sectors

Remote Precision Machining and Remote CNC Machining share overlapping skills in machining and certifications. However, precision machining emphasizes high-accuracy, detailed work on complex parts, often in specialized industries. CNC machining focuses more on programming and operating CNC machines for a variety of manufacturing tasks. Both roles are vital in modern manufacturing, with distinctions mainly in scope and specialization.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote precision machining roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote precision machining professionals often face challenges related to communication, maintaining quality standards, and troubleshooting equipment from a distance. Working remotely requires clear and proactive communication with on-site teams to ensure specifications are met and any issues are promptly addressed. Utilizing robust collaboration tools, regularly reviewing project requirements, and participating in virtual quality checks can help mitigate these challenges. Staying updated with digital machining software and remote monitoring technologies is also crucial for maintaining productivity and accuracy.

Job description

WHO WE ARE:

At Harvey Performance Company, we're more than a team; we're a community. Our thriving, dynamic, and rapidly expanding organization values community, celebrates success, and fosters personal and professional growth opportunities.

 THE OPPORTUNITY:

We're hiring a Manager, Product Strategy to lead the product direction for our holemaking category. You'll own the roadmap, define where and how we compete, and translate customer and market insights into the product priorities that drive growth. This is a newly scoped role with strong cross-functional reach across engineering, sales, operations, and marketing. Strong preference for candidates based in New England.

 IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Own the product strategy, long-range roadmap, and investment priorities for the holemaking category, including competitive positioning and portfolio structure.
  • Drive active product development initiatives forward, confirming customer requirements, competitive benchmarks, and business targets with sales, AEs, and customers.
  • Translate customer, application, and market insights into clear product requirements, value propositions, and business cases.
  • Serve as the primary business and customer voice across product development, partnering with engineering, project management, operations, and marketing from concept through launch.
  • Build out the holemaking roadmap reconfirming current priorities, identifying unmet needs in growth segments, and shaping the next wave of investment.
  • Support brand growth and position the category for expansion into Europe.
  • Own lifecycle management for the category, including refresh, rationalization, and end-of-life decisions.
  • Track SKU, category, and market performance to inform roadmap updates and feed post-launch learnings back into prioritization.

YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, product strategy, or an adjacent commercial/technical role.
  • Strong background in customer-driven product strategy, market analysis, and business case development.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and drive direction in a matrixed organization without formal authority.
  • Analytical, structured thinker with strong commercial acumen, financial fluency, and the ability to distill disparate inputs into clear strategy and recommendations.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills — able to work out front with sales, customers, and marketing, then bring insights back and turn them into documented direction.
  • Aptitude for mechanical or industrial products and the ability to engage credibly with technical teams, AEs, and customers.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Direct experience with cutting tools, drills, or precision machining products.
  • Background working with sales, application engineering, or technical service teams in an industrial setting.
  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience supporting product expansion into international markets, particularly Europe.
  • Exposure to aerospace, medical device, or tool and die end markets.
  • Based in New England, within commuting distance of Gorham, ME or Rowley, MA.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK:

This role is fully remote. While our headquarters are in Rowley, MA, you'll have the flexibility to work from wherever you do your best work. We focus on outcomes, not location, and support remote team members with the tools, communication, and connection they need to succeed.

WHAT HARVEY PROVIDES:

  • A fun, rapid-growing environment where new opportunities are regularly made available.
  • Opportunities for training and development, including tuition reimbursement.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including PTO, paid holidays, health, dental, vision insurance, and a 401k match program, along with profit sharing.
