Job Description

The Principal Engineer for Digital Workplace Technology is a senior technical leader within NBCUniversal’s Workplace Technology Engineering (WTE) organization, responsible for defining and delivering the next-generation digital workplace platform. This role spans enterprise collaboration, endpoint engineering, and AI platform engineering, including Microsoft 365, Copilot, Power Platform, and enterprise AI solutions. This position plays a critical role in transforming NBCU’s digital workplace into an AI-first productivity platform that powers employee communication, engagement, and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Technology Strategy & Architecture 

  • Define and lead the technical vision, roadmap, and standards for NBCU’s digital
    workplace platforms across collaboration, endpoints, and AI.
  • Own the end-to-end architecture for Workplace Technology Engineering, ensuring
    alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a technical authority for complex system design, scalability, and long-term
     platform evolution.

Digital Workplace Platform Engineering 

  • Lead design and engineering of enterprise workplace services, including:
  • Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online)
  • Identity & security (Entra ID, Purview, Defender)
  • Endpoint engineering (Intune, JAMF, SCCM)
  • Unified communications, telephony, and conferencing solutions
  • Ensure platforms deliver high availability, performance, and security, while reducing operational overhead through automation and standardization. 
  • Drive global consistency across workplace technologies supporting hybrid work environments.

AI & Workplace Intelligence Engineering

  • Architect and deliver enterprise AI capabilities, including:
    • Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio
    • Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate)
    • Enterprise AI and low-code automation solutions
  • Lead the engineering of agentic AI solutions, automation workflows, and knowledge systems that enhance employee productivity and decision-making.
  • Establish standards for:
    • AI governance, security, and responsible use
    • Data protection, privacy, and compliance within AI solutions
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify and prioritize high-value AI use cases across NBCU.

Engineering Excellence & SRE Practices

  • Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles across workplace platforms:
    • Define and manage SLIs/SLOs
    • Improve observability and monitoring
    • Automate operations to reduce manual toil
  • Drive reliability, resilience, and operational excellence across global services supporting collaboration, endpoints, and AI platforms. 

Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Act as a senior technical leader and mentor across WTE engineering teams.
  • Lead architecture reviews, engineering design boards, and technical decision-making forums.
  • Partner closely with:
    • Workplace Operations
    • Cybersecurity & Risk
    • Enterprise Architecture
    • Product & Business stakeholders
  • Influence strategic decisions and ensure alignment between technology investments and business outcomes.

Innovation & Transformation

  • Drive modernization initiatives across workplace platforms, including cloud migration, endpoint transformation, and AI adoption.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in: 
    • Generative AI and LLM ecosystems
    • Digital employee experience (DEX) platforms
    • Automation and low-code development

Enable continuous improvement of employee experience across NBCU’s global workforce.

Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in enterprise engineering, platform engineering, or workplace technology
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive)
    • Endpoint engineering and device management platforms (Intune, JAMF, SCCM)
    • Cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Strong experience in AI/ML or enterprise AI engineering, including Copilot or similar platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Power Platform
  • Knowledge of MLOps, DevOps, and platform engineering best practices
  • Experience in media, entertainment, or large global enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with NBCU-specific platforms (e.g. Intranet, employee portals, custom digital experiences)
  • Proven experience leading large-scale enterprise platform transformations
  • Strong architectural, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong business acuity, including understanding and practical application of relevant market/industry trends
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment and to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring organization and time management.
