Job description

We are currently accepting applications from undergraduate or graduate students for a paid internship during the spring 2026 term, with a possibility of extending to summer and fall 2026 terms.

About the APA Publishing Author Marketing and Business Development office:

As the publishing arm of the nonprofit American Psychological Association, APA Publishing is supported by more than 125 years of research and publication. APA is proud to publish 90 peer reviewed journals spanning the breadth and depth of psychology, with many journals published in partnership with APA's specialty divisions and other national and international societies. The Author Marketing and Business Development team is responsible for growing and strengthening the APA Journals program through author, reviewer, editor, and partner outreach, analytics, and acquisitions.

Requirements:

  • A student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study, with an interest in psychology, academic publishing, marketing, communications, or related disciplines.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with and interest in social media strategy (Bluesky, X, LinkedIn, Facebook).

Interns can expect to learn the following:

  • How the American Psychological Association operates as a nonprofit academic publisher, focusing in particular on the APA Journals program.
  • How APA promotes its noteworthy research via various social media channels.
  • The latest news and noteworthy findings across the field of psychology.
  • Publishing analytics, including benchmarking analyses.
  • Intern projects vary but may include drafting social media posts and corresponding visuals, constructing social media calendars (including holidays and awareness days), testing various post types, conducting competitor research, and assisting with editor conference requests. 
  • Estimated weekly schedule: 10 hours a week, with a possibility for up to 20 hours a week if determined necessary.
