Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking anย East Tennesseeย Transportation Business Manager.ย We are looking for an individual who wants to advance their career by leading and expanding the capabilities of a growing Tennessee transportation group. ย With a minimum of ten (10+) years of highway/roadway and project management experience, you will lead team members to successfully complete construction documents for highway and roadway systems.ย  Career minded professionals with self-confidence and a teachable spirit find themselves advancing quickly. As a Transportation Manager, you will play a key role in managing projects, expanding the capabilities of the team, and growing the business. The ideal candidate has strong relationships with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and other Tennessee transportation agencies and has served as Project Manager on Tennessee transportation projects.

This individual can work out of either our Knoxville, or Chattanooga offices depending on candidate preference.ย  After initial onboarding, training and integration, we are open to a flexible remote work schedule.ย  This would be best if the individual lived within an hour's drive of the above offices and be able to travel as needed for business and client needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participating in and managing transportation/roadway projects, consisting of environmental, geotechnical, or CE&I projects.
  • Build up backlog by pursuing and winning work as prime and subconsultant
  • Maintain effective client relationships; leverage project experience to win work
  • Recognize and initiate business development opportunities
  • Lead and/or assist with the coordination, development and production of proposals, SOQs and presentations, ensuring the highest quality of information and documentation output
  • Prepare and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Write reports and technical memos
  • Manage client communications, expectations, and satisfaction
  • Manage, advise, coach and develop junior engineers
Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university
  • Tennessee Professional Engineer (PE) License or able to obtain within six months of hire
  • 10+ years as a Transportation/Roadway Engineer/Project Manager
  • Strong personnel management skills
  • Self-starter with strong oral and written communications skills
  • Detail oriented, proactive individual who takes ownership of their work
  • Proficiency in following software:
    • Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Candidates must be familiar with TDOT standards and procedures
  • Existing relationships with TDOT and other Tennessee municipalities preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Motivated to develop business from new and existing clients
  • Availability to work outside normal business hours as required
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Project sites - Approximately 15% overnight travel
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
