Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Service Engineer to provide technical service, installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and customer support for pharmaceutical and biotech equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in freeze-drying/lyophilization systems, injectable production equipment, chemical API processing, bioengineering systems, and pharmaceutical packaging equipment.

The Field Service Engineer will work closely with customers to ensure equipment operates efficiently and complies with industry standards and GMP requirements. As needed, Tofflon will provide employees with free technical training on equipment for projects located in China and other country worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, commissioning, qualification, and startup support for pharmaceutical and biotech equipment.
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and emergency service support.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related issues efficiently.
  • Support equipment used in freeze-drying/lyophilization, Lyo injectable production, chemical API manufacturing, bioengineering, and pharma packaging applications.
  • Conduct FAT/SAT activities and assist with equipment validation when required.
  • Train customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
  • Prepare detailed service reports and maintain accurate documentation after each service visit.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering, sales, and technical support teams to resolve customer issues.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and provide professional technical support.
  • Travel frequently to customer sites within assigned regions and occasionally internationally.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, safety regulations, and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Bioengineering, or related technical field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in the same industry areas, including:
    • Freeze-drying / Lyophilization
    • Lyo Injectables
    • Chemical API
    • Bioengineering
    • Pharmaceutical Packaging
    • Pharmaceutical or Biotech Manufacturing Equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, automation, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLC systems, HMI controls, sensors, and industrial instrumentation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of GMP, FDA, and pharmaceutical industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and P&ID drawings.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple service assignments.

  • This is a hybrid role, primarily remote from a home office, with occasional work expected at our Springfield, NJ office as needed.
  • Approximately 50–80% travel is required, including domestic travel within North America and international travel.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Experience with sterile injectable or aseptic processing equipment.
