The Opportunity

As a dedicated Business Architect, you will be supporting the Property & Casualty Portfolio Management Office, you will play a pivotal role in delivering our organizational strategy, driving the successful execution of initiatives, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. In this role you will apply business knowledge and technical skills to increase strategy to execution traceability, systemically align business strategies and technology investments, and support portfolio planning, prioritization, and execution readiness processes.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Assist peers with developing the business architecture and monitoring implemented strategic plans and progress towards strategic goals.

  • Support peers/colleagues in strategic choices definition, fact-based prioritization analysis, and business opportunity assessments.

  • Contribute to business strategy translation/decomposition/deconstruction and visualization for the alignment of the organizational spans and layers (i.e., strategy blueprints).

  • Execute assigned tasks in current and target state assessments to inform and visualize internal business capability maturity needs and prioritization over the strategic horizon (i.e., capability-based planning). 

  • Populate the business knowledgebase and blueprints for planning, portfolio, and executive decision-making and analysis.

  • Align subsequent strategies, plans, and business within the business, across business lines, and extended architecture community (enterprise, technical, process, and information).

  • Execute efforts to mature the business architecture.

  • Follow and adhere to business architecture framework, governing principles, and best practices.

  • Maintain the business architecture supporting tool suite.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures. ​

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant business architecture experience, such as knowledgebase development, strategy translation/decomposition/deconstruction, capability-based planning to include business capability assessments and capability roadmap development.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, and contributing to, cross-functional teams without direct authority.

  • Familiarity of the various strategy, planning, and execution methods (Waterfall and Agile).

  • Demonstrated experience producing and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated business acumen.

  • Familiarity with industry standard business and enterprise architecture framework (BIZBOK®, TOGAF®). ​

  • Prior U.S. military service or being a military spouse/domestic partner is highly valued.

  • 1+ years working in property and casualty insurance industry.

  • Experience working with business partners in targeted conversations for early clarification of strategic intent and target state.

  • Consistent track record of crafting and implementing solutions with a systems-thinking, member-centric approach.

  • Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively convey insights to diverse audiences.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $85,040.00 - $162,550.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
