Remote Physical Security Engineer information

What is a remote physical security engineer?

A Remote Physical Security Engineer is a professional who designs, implements, and manages physical security systems like access control, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems from a remote location. They often work with on-site teams to ensure all security measures are properly installed and maintained. Their responsibilities may include conducting risk assessments, troubleshooting issues, and providing ongoing support and upgrades to security infrastructure. By working remotely, they leverage technology to monitor systems, analyze data, and respond to incidents without being physically present at the facility.

How does a remote physical security engineer effectively collaborate with on-site teams to address security concerns?

As a Remote Physical Security Engineer, you will frequently coordinate with on-site security staff, facility managers, and IT teams using video conferencing, remote monitoring tools, and digital documentation. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication protocols are essential to ensure that security system installations, upgrades, and incident responses are executed smoothly. While you may not be physically present, building strong relationships and establishing trust with on-site personnel is key to effectively addressing security vulnerabilities and implementing solutions. Remote engineers often leverage detailed site plans, surveillance feeds, and real-time data to guide and support on-the-ground teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote physical security engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Physical Security Engineer, you need expertise in physical security systems, risk assessment, and a background in engineering or security management, often supported by certifications like PSP (Physical Security Professional). Familiarity with security management software, access control systems, video surveillance technologies, and remote monitoring tools is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for designing, implementing, and maintaining effective security measures that protect assets and people, even from a remote setting.

What is the difference between Remote Physical Security Engineer vs Physical Security Technician?

Job description

Position Overviewย

We are seeking aย Senior Cybersecurity Engineerย to provide handson leadership for our corporate IT security environment, while also supporting cybersecurity efforts within our manufacturing (OT) environments.ย

This role is primarily focused on enterprise IT security, with additional responsibility for supporting OT security initiatives in partnership with Engineering and Automation teams. In addition to deep technical ownership, this role plays a key part in executing the cybersecurity roadmap, coordinating with external security partners, and advising IT leadership on security strategy and architecture decisions.ย

The ideal candidate is a technically strong, selfdirected security professional who enjoys owning security platforms endtoend, improving detection and response capabilities, and working crossfunctionally to reduce cyber risk across both business and manufacturing systems.ย

Key Responsibilitiesย

Corporate IT Securityย

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise cybersecurity controls across onpremises, cloud, and hybrid environments.ย

  • Own and administer security platforms including SIEM/MDR/XDR, Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR), and Identity & Access Management (MFA, PIM/PAM).ย

  • Lead threat detection, alert tuning, threat hunting, and incident response activities.ย

  • Secure and monitor Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.ย

  • Investigate and remediate security incidents; provide oncall support for cybersecurity events as needed.ย

  • Generate security metrics and reports to support risk management, audits, and continuous improvement.ย

  • Evaluate and recommend security tools and enhancements aligned with business and technology needs.ย

Manufacturing / OT Security Supportย

  • Support cybersecurity efforts in manufacturing and OT environments through applied security controls and monitoring.ย

  • Assist with extending enterprise security visibility and detection into OTrelevant systems where appropriate.ย

  • Support secure remote access and vendor access controls for manufacturing support scenarios.ย

  • Partner with Engineering, Automation, and Networking teams on OT security improvements such as segmentation and access controls.ย

  • Participate in OTrelated incident response activities with emphasis on safety, uptime, and operational continuity.ย

Note: This role supports OT security through handson security controls and partnership but is not a fulltime OT systems or controls engineering role.ย

Security Roadmap & Leadershipย

  • Act as a project lead for key initiatives within the cybersecurity roadmap.ย

  • Plan, execute, and track cybersecurity initiatives, communicating progress, risks, and outcomes to IT leadership.ย

  • Partner with IT leadership to prioritize initiatives based on risk, business impact, and resource availability.ย

Architecture, Risk & Complianceย

  • Conduct security reviews, vulnerability assessments, and risk analyses.ย

  • Support internal and customerdriven security audits.ย

  • Maintain and contribute to security policies, standards, and documentation aligned with frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001.ย

  • Research emerging threats and technologies to continuously improve security posture.ย

Collaboration & Advisory Roleย

  • Partner closely with the Head of IT Infrastructure to oversee and coordinate external cybersecurity partners, including SOC, penetration testing providers, and managed service providers.ย

  • Work directly with the CIO and IT Infrastructure leadership as a trusted advisor, contributing to cybersecurity strategy, architecture decisions, and longterm planning.ย

  • Communicate security risks, initiatives, and recommendations to both technical teams and executive leadership.ย

  • Mentor team members and promote cybersecurity best practices across the organization.ย

  • Support and contribute to enterprise security awareness initiatives.ย

Requiredย

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).ย

  • Seniorlevel experience in cybersecurity engineering or security operations.ย

  • Strong handson experience with enterprise IT security technologies.ย

  • Experience with SIEM, incident response, identity security, endpoint protection, and cloud security.ย

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.ย

Preferredย

  • Exposure to manufacturing or OT environments.ย

  • Familiarity with ICS/SCADA concepts.ย

  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC/GICSP, Security+, or Microsoft Security certifications.ย

  • Experience supporting audits and writing security policies or standards.ย

Why Join Usย

  • Opportunity to own and shape enterprise cybersecurity in a manufacturing environmentย

  • Blend of handson technical work and strategic influenceย

  • Direct exposure to IT leadership and executive decisionmakingย

  • Ability to drive meaningful improvements across IT and manufacturing securityย

Travelย

  • Limited; occasional travel to manufacturing facilities as needed.ย
