Both roles are remote and part-time, but they serve different functions within a company's finance team.

What is a Remote Part Time Controller?

A Remote Part Time Controller is a financial professional who manages a company's accounting and financial reporting functions on a part-time basis, working remotely rather than on-site. They oversee tasks such as budgeting, financial analysis, compliance, and sometimes payroll, helping organizations maintain accurate financial records. This role is ideal for small to mid-sized businesses that need high-level financial oversight without hiring a full-time, in-house controller. Remote Part Time Controllers often work with multiple clients and use cloud-based software to perform their duties efficiently. Their expertise helps businesses make informed financial decisions while saving on employment costs.

How does a remote part-time controller effectively collaborate with on-site accounting and finance teams?

A remote part-time controller typically relies on robust digital communication tools, such as video conferencing and cloud-based accounting platforms, to stay connected with on-site teams. Regular check-ins and clearly defined workflows help ensure that financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and setting clear expectations for deliverables are essential for overcoming the challenges of remote collaboration. Flexibility and proactive communication are key to maintaining alignment with the company's financial goals and deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Part Time Controller, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Part Time Controller, you need a deep understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, usually supported by a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and CPA or CMA certification. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Xero, as well as advanced Excel skills, is essential. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills for managing remote workflows and collaborating with distributed teams. These competencies ensure accurate financial oversight, regulatory adherence, and seamless financial operations even in a remote, part-time capacity.

Job description

Graylog: AI-Powered Security & IT Operations Without Compromise

Graylog builds the AI-powered SIEM and log management platform that security and IT teams rely on to quickly catch threats, investigate with clarity, and control data costs - all without trade-offs. Our platform brings together scalable log management, real-time visibility, and explainable AI that supports analysts with clear insights instead of black-box guesses. It helps teams zero in on real threats, act faster, and make decisions with confidence.

Rooted in open source and headquartered in Houston, we continue to grow a global community and customer base that values speed, transparency, and practical innovation.
