What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Painting position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Painting, you need advanced skills in traditional or digital painting, a strong artistic portfolio, and experience with remote collaboration platforms. Familiarity with digital art tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, or similar software is often required, along with knowledge of cloud-based project management systems. Excellent time management, communication, and self-motivation are critical for success in an autonomous home-based environment. These skills ensure timely, high-quality artwork delivery while effectively collaborating with clients or creative teams from a distance.

What is a Remote Painting job?

A Remote Painting job involves creating artwork or completing painting projects from a remote location, rather than physically being on-site. This can include digital painting, traditional canvas work, or even remotely guiding painting projects for clients. Artists may work on commissions, sell their artwork online, or collaborate with clients through virtual platforms. Many remote painters use tools like tablets and software for digital art or ship physical paintings to buyers. This job requires creativity, time management, and marketing skills to reach potential customers.

What are some of the common challenges faced by Remote Painters when working from home?

Remote Painters may face challenges such as maintaining self-discipline, managing project deadlines without in-person supervision, and ensuring clear communication with clients or teams across different time zones. Staying motivated and inspired independently can sometimes be difficult, so successful Remote Painters often set regular schedules and participate in virtual feedback sessions or critiques. Additionally, they may need to troubleshoot technical issues with digital tools or coordinate shipping logistics for physical paintings if required. Building a comfortable, well-equipped workspace at home is important to stay productive and maintain high artistic standards.

Job description

Senior Lead Estimator — Commercial Painting (Remote, Tampa FL)

Finishing Touch Plus Florida Location: Remote (Tampa, FL based)

Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $130,000 base + commission (OTE $140,000–$150,000)

Lead the estimating department at one of the region's premier commercial painting contractors

Finishing Touch Plus Florida is growing, and we're looking for a Senior Lead Estimator to build and head up our estimating department. We're part of one of the largest commercial painting operations in the country — in fact, our group is the single largest purchaser of Sherwin-Williams paint in the Midwest. That scale means high project volume, sophisticated bids, and a real opportunity for a seasoned estimator to own the function and shape how it runs.

This is a leadership seat. You'll set the standard for how we take off, price, and win work — and you'll be rewarded for the volume you help close.

What you'll do

  • Own the estimating function: lead takeoffs, pricing, and bid strategy for commercial painting projects across new construction, remodel, and tenant-improvement work.
  • Produce accurate, competitive estimates and proposals at a steady cadence (target of 4–5 estimates/proposals per week, depending on size).
  • Build and standardize estimating processes and best practices for new construction and remodel/TI work.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and build estimates using cloud-based takeoff and cloud-based estimating platforms.
  • Review plans and specifications, identify scope, and drive bid-to-award accuracy and margin discipline.
  • Coordinate onsite job walks when necessary to verify scope and conditions.
  • Mentor and support the estimating team as the department grows.

What you bring

  • 5–7 years of estimating experience, ideally in commercial painting or a related specialty-trade / construction environment.
  • Hands-on expertise with cloud-based takeoff software and cloud-based estimating software — this is a must-have.
  • A proven track record of accurate, winning estimates and strong margin performance.
  • The judgment and leadership to build a department, set standards, and own outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills and the discipline to hit weekly production targets and quarterly performance goals.

Compensation & benefits

  • Base salary: $130,000/year, reviewed annually.
  • Performance commission on the projects you estimate and win — the more awarded work you drive, the more you earn. Realistic on-target earnings of $140,000–$150,000.
  • Health insurance: flexible ICHRA program — choose the plan that fits your needs from options in your area, with a monthly employer contribution toward your premium.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Paid time off: 80 hours annually, effective at your start date.
  • Remote flexibility: this role is remote for 2026. (If a Tampa office opens in the future, some in-office hours may be required.)

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Quarterly performance reviews.

How to apply

Apply directly through ZipRecruiter with your resume. Candidates who highlight their commercial painting estimating experience and the specific cloud takeoff/estimating platforms they've used will move to the top of the list.
