Duties
Help
  • Receives and/or stages stock for shipment or issue. Ensure correctness of quantities, identification and labeling.
  • Performs ordinary packing, blocking and bracing, or requests assistance when substantial quantities are involved.
  • Delivers stock received to the appropriate Service, Division, or Section.
  • Completes documents, obtains signatures, maintains various records and prepares reports.
  • Operates forklift trucks and electric walk-behind hand jacks and other automated equipment such as optical readers and scanners.

  • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
  • Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
  • Strength test may be required.
  • Selectee may be requiremed to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
  • Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
  • Working Conditions: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted.
  • This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a valid Forklift Operator's license.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment requirements

Qualifications
To qualify for the Materials Handler, KX-6907-05 position, applicants must meet the following Screen Out-Element: #1 - Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT is not sufficient, you will not receive further consideration.
In addition to the SCREENOUT, applicants must also have the ability to perform the following:
1) Receiving, shipping, checking, and recording all incoming/outgoing materials;
2) verifying quantities and condition of materials and/or equipment; AND
3) Maintaining bulk staging area for pallets and skids to include operating powered high and low-lift fork trucks to carry, lift, and stack loads of various materials.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
Education
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
