What is a remote OSHA?

A Remote OSHA job typically refers to a position in which professionals ensure workplace safety compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations while working remotely. These roles may include safety consultants, trainers, compliance officers, or administrative positions that support OSHA compliance for organizations. Remote OSHA workers use digital tools to conduct safety audits, provide training sessions, and manage safety documentation without being physically present at the job site. Their primary goal is to help employers maintain a safe and healthy work environment according to federal guidelines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote OSHA compliance specialist?

To thrive as a Remote OSHA Compliance Specialist, you need in-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, risk assessment expertise, and a relevant degree or certification in occupational safety. Familiarity with compliance management software, incident reporting systems, and strong proficiency in virtual communication tools is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to educate and collaborate remotely make someone stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring workplace safety, reducing risks, and maintaining regulatory compliance across distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote OSHA compliance specialists, and how can they be overcome?

Remote OSHA Compliance Specialists often face challenges such as ensuring effective communication with on-site teams, staying updated on changing regulations, and conducting thorough virtual inspections. To overcome these, specialists typically use video conferencing tools, maintain detailed digital records, and participate in ongoing training. Building strong relationships with site contacts and leveraging technology for virtual walkthroughs are also key strategies for ensuring compliance and safety from a remote setting.

This role partners closely with underwriting and policyholders to evaluate risk, reduce losses, and support account retention and growth.

You'll serve as a trusted advisor-helping clients improve workplace safety while delivering insights that support sound underwriting decisions.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct onsite, virtual, and telephonic risk evaluations for Workers' Compensation accounts

  • Provide actionable oversight of Loss Control inspection vendors, including quality review of vendor work and reports to ensure standards are met.

Share and Inform

  • Support broader loss control efforts such as targeted safety communications, educational outreach, or loss control campaigns addressing common loss drivers across the Workers' Compensation book.
  • Provide input on recurring trends and exposures to help inform proactive, booklevel loss prevention initiatives.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Workers' Compensation loss control or safety experience with an insurance carrier
  • Knowledge of workplace hazards, injury trends, and OSHA requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to apply sound judgement when evaluating risk
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Risk Management, Occupational Health, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel for onsite surveys as needed
  • Safety or insurance designations (ASP, ARM, CSP) preferred
