Location: Remote (Candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S.)

Job Type: Full Time and Part Time available

Pay Range: $35/hr - $55+/hr (Depending on technical qualifications and courses you are certified to teach)

Employment: Must be authorized to work in the US, both now and in the future, without visa sponsorship from an employer

Role Summary

The Electrical Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality custom and standard training to customers, both in-person and virtually. This role requires a driven individual capable of preparing and delivering dynamic lectures, directing hands-on laboratory requirements, leading classroom discussions, and grading examinations. We are seeking candidates who are deeply passionate about teaching, electrical safety, and knowledge transfer, rather than those viewing instruction as a "check-the-box" or retirement role.

The instructor will exercise independent judgment in the delivery of training and the improvement of existing courses. This includes utilizing NFPA 70, 70B, 70E, IEEE, ANSI, ASTM, ANSI/NETA, and OSHA standards in the development of new training programs to accommodate customer requirements and increase organizational profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Instruction: Deliver dynamic lectures and lead technical classroom discussions across both virtual and in-person environments.
• Hands-on Training: Direct and supervise laboratory exercises and hands-on training sessions.
• Assessment: Administer and grade student examinations.
• Curriculum Development: Improve existing courses and develop new training programs based on industry standards (NFPA, IEEE, OSHA, etc.) and customer needs.
• Travel: Travel extensively across the U.S. to deliver on-site training at various locations.

Qualifications & Technical Knowledge

• Electrical Theory & Standards: Comprehensive knowledge of basic and advanced electrical/electronic theory.
• Installations: Thorough understanding of electrical terms required for installations (e.g., branch circuits, grounding systems).
• Wiring Methods: Knowledge of wiring methods for determining conductor ampacity and sizing circuits/devices for motors and motor circuits.
• Safety: Knowledge of electrical hazards, safety regulations, safe work procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Hazard Calculations: Knowledge of electrical shock and flash hazards, including the calculation of boundaries.
• Equipment & Systems: Thorough knowledge of electric motor controls/field devices, relay control schemes, PLCs, motor drives, and LV & MV motors.
• Technical Documentation: Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, electrical prints, one-line diagrams, symbols, and other technical documentation.
• Circuit Breakers: Knowledge of installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and service of circuit breakers rated at less than 1K VAC.
• Breaker Components: Understanding of low voltage circuit breaker components, mechanical adjustments, and electrical testing.
• Overcurrent Devices: Ability to read a wide variety of overcurrent trip devices and their corresponding time curves.
• Electrical Calculations: Knowledge of overcurrent protection, voltage drop, neutral load, and other related calculations.

Experience Requirements

• Technical/Electrical Experience: 7–15 years of hands-on experience in low voltage industrial or low voltage electronics installation/troubleshooting.
• Instruction/Training Experience: 3–7 years of instruction/teaching, public speaking, and experience in training seminars within an adult education environment. (Note: Technical competence is prioritized over long teaching tenure).
• Licensure: Journeyman or Masters Electrical License remains highly relevant and is strongly preferred.
• General Skills: Skilled in the use of basic tools, strong communication, and customer relation skills.
• Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Adobe.

Mandatory Requirements

• Must be able to travel extensively and drive legally.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Valid Passport (Preferred, but not mandatory).
