Job description

Overview

SRI is looking for an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to work remotely within the U.S. You will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, performance, security, and availability of our Oracle, SQL Server and other database environments. You will ensure the integrity, reliability, and optimal performance of mission-critical databases that support business applications and services. The DBA works closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, security personnel, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure database solutions while supporting ongoing operational and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Oracle Database environments across development, test, and production systems.
  • Monitor database performance, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal system operation.
  • Perform routine database maintenance activities, including patching, backups, recovery testing, and health checks.
  • Manage database storage structures, tablespaces, users, roles, and privileges.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, performance bottlenecks, and system issues.

Performance & Optimization

  • Analyze and optimize SQL queries, database configurations, and system resources to improve performance.
  • Conduct database tuning activities using Oracle performance management tools and best practices.
  • Monitor database growth trends and recommend capacity planning strategies.

Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity

  • Develop, implement, and maintain backup and recovery procedures using Oracle RMAN and related technologies.
  • Perform disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to ensure business continuity.
  • Validate backup integrity and recovery readiness through periodic testing.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain database security controls in accordance with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Manage user access controls, auditing, encryption, and vulnerability remediation activities.
  • Support compliance initiatives and security audits by providing required documentation and evidence.

Project Support & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with application development teams to support database design, deployment, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Participate in infrastructure and application projects involving database architecture and integrations.
  • Develop and maintain database documentation, standards, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and support staff.

On-Call Support

  • Participate in after-hours support and on-call rotations as required to ensure system availability and timely incident resolution.

Additional Responsibilities

  • SQL Server Administration
    • Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments.
    • Perform SQL Server backup, recovery, patching, performance tuning, and capacity planning activities.
    • Troubleshoot database performance issues and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database configurations.
    • Support database migrations, upgrades, and high-availability solutions such as Always On Availability Groups.
  • Workload Automation & Scheduling
    • Administer and maintain ActiveBatch workload automation and job scheduling environments.
    • Develop, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize automated workflows, batch jobs, and cross-platform scheduling processes.
    • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to automate operational processes and improve efficiency.

    • Ensure job scheduling reliability, error handling, alerting, and operational documentation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience administering Oracle databases in enterprise environments.
    • Database admin & operations, (as listed within the job responsibilities section) with Oracle Database 12c, 19c, or newer versions.
    • Proficiency in Oracle RMAN, Data Guard, ASM, and database backup/recovery strategies.
    • Experience with database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
    • Experience working with Linux/Unix operating systems and writing and editing shell scripts.
    • Experience with database security, access management, and auditing practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with effective communication skills while working collaboratively with others.
  • Must be U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC and high-availability architectures.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based Oracle environments, including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Ansible.
  • Experience with data migration, replication, and database modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management practices.
  • Experience administering both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, security, and high-availability solutions.
  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Agent, and Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
  • Hands-on experience with Active Batch Workload Automation or similar enterprise scheduling tools.
  • Experience developing, monitoring, and troubleshooting automated batch processing workflows.

The salary range is: $104,608-$173,260. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
