Job description

Administers and controls the activities related to data planning. Develops and establishes policies and procedures pertaining to management, security, maintenance, and utilization of database. Advises management on database concepts and functional capabilities. Performs backup and recovery on Database Management Systems. Configures database parameters, and prototypes designs against logical data models. Defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements. Installs and upgrades the database server and application tools. May plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the database.
Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day monitoring and addressing of issues in Oracle databases in various environments i.e., Dev, Test, Acceptance and Production.
  • Working with App Admins and Developers to address issues to support the application.
  • Linux Shell scripting/automation of routine tasks.
  • Support Oracle standby databases.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Grid Control to automate jobs.
  • Create materialized views to support applications.
  • Promote code from DEV/TEST to Acceptance to Production environments.
  • Build new databases, perform database upgrades and apply oracle patches.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues as they arise.
  • Backup Databases using RMAN and CommVault tools.
  • Restore databases via RMAN and/or NetApp Snapshots.

Qualifications
  • General Experience: 5 years of experience as an Oracle DBA in an operations environment. Preference for experience in management, maintenance, and sustainment of an Oracle version 19c or greater database environments. Preference for experience including hands-on administration of Oracle databases in a production environment.
  • Specialized Experience: Certifications in CompTIA Security+ (or government approved IT Security Certification e.g. CISSP) and Oracle Certified Associate (or above). Areas of significant importance: Understand IT operations environment and follow operations protocols, is used to monitor alerts on a daily basis and react to address issues, be able to carry out routine oracle database functions, be able to trouble-shoot common database issues, be able to write and update basic sql scripts, is well versed in Linux/Unix scripting, have worked with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) tool and Database backup and recovery tool (RMAN), have used CommVault tool, have had experience in Database security, is comfortable with taking charge of specific task teams, can communicate well verbally and in writing, have interfaced with customers on a regular basis, be able to work off hours particularly on some Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and when situation calls for on other days, be available for one-week on-call duty on a rotational basis every few weeks.
  • Required to be U.S. citizen and must be able to maintain Secret clearance eligibility.
  • Preferred: BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution.
