How much do remote optician jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 2, 2026, the average hourly pay for remote optician in Renton, WA is $21.72, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.65 and $24.09 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Will optometrists be replaced by AI?

Optometrists, including remote opticians, perform complex tasks such as diagnosing eye conditions and prescribing corrective lenses, which currently require human judgment and clinical expertise. While AI can assist with tasks like vision testing and data analysis, it is unlikely to fully replace optometrists in the near future due to the need for personalized patient care and professional oversight.

What is a Remote Optician job?

A Remote Optician assists customers with eyewear selection, prescription interpretation, and lens recommendations through virtual consultations. They may work for online optical retailers, telehealth platforms, or optometry practices, providing expert guidance on frames, lenses, and vision care. Duties often include troubleshooting vision issues, adjusting prescriptions, and ensuring proper eyewear fittings—all done remotely using digital tools.

How to make 2000 a week working from home?

A remote optician can potentially earn $2,000 a week by working full-time hours, often requiring certification and experience in optical dispensing. Increasing income may involve taking on multiple clients, offering specialized services, or working for high-paying employers that value remote optical expertise. Building a strong reputation and utilizing scheduling tools can also help maximize earnings in this field.

Can opticians work remotely?

Remote opticians can perform certain tasks such as patient consultations, fitting virtual eyewear, and administrative work, but many aspects of the role require in-person interaction, especially for dispensing and adjusting eyewear. Certification and licensing requirements often necessitate on-site presence for some duties. Therefore, while some components of the optician role can be done remotely, full-time remote work is limited and depends on the employer and specific job responsibilities.

Where do opticians make the most money?

Opticians tend to earn higher salaries in regions with a higher cost of living and greater demand for eye care services, such as urban areas and affluent communities. Salaries can also increase with experience, certifications, and working in specialized or high-end optical practices.

What are some typical challenges faced by Remote Opticians, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Opticians may face challenges such as accurately assessing patient needs without in-person interactions and managing the limitations of virtual fitting tools. To address these, opticians rely on clear communication, detailed patient histories, and advanced tele-optometry software that enables precise measurements and adjustments. Collaboration with on-site optometrists or other eye care professionals is often necessary for complex cases. Staying up to date with virtual care best practices and regularly participating in training can help overcome these challenges and ensure top-quality patient service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Optician position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Optician, you should have a background in opticianry, state licensure or certification, and expertise in fitting and adjusting eyeglasses and contact lenses. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and optical measurement tools is important for conducting virtual consultations. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and customer service orientation are key soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to ensure accurate prescriptions, regulatory compliance, and a positive patient experience while working remotely.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to join our Quantum Networking Group. As an Optical Engineer, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and validating advanced optical systems for quantum networking, specifically focusing on the development of high-fidelity Bell State Analyzers and quantum state tomography modules. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who thrives in navigating the intersection of classical optical engineering and experimental quantum physics.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate complex free-space and fiber-optic assemblies for quantum interference and entanglement distribution.
  • Develop and characterize Bell State Analyzers (BSA) utilizing high-efficiency single-photon detectors and precise temporal/spatial overlap control.
  • Implement automated quantum tomography protocols to characterize the fidelity of networked quantum states.
  • Collaborate with the systems engineering team to integrate optical networking hardware into the broader IonQ quantum computer architecture.
  • Execute rigorous experimental validation of optical components, including polarization extinction ratios, insertion losses, and interferometric stability.
  • Optimize optical alignment procedures to transition laboratory-grade setups into robust, field-deployable quantum networking equipment.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Optical Engineering, Photonics, or Applied Physics with a focus on precision optical systems.
  • Master's degree in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in data analysis (e.g., Python) and instrument control (e.g., LabView, Simulink).
  • Hands-on experience with ultra-stable interferometry, fiber optics, and precision alignment of free-space optical systems.
  • Deep understanding of photon statistics and single-photon detection technologies (SNSPDs, APDs).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex electro-optical systems in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics or Optical Engineering with a thesis focused on Quantum Optics or Quantum Information Science.
  • Proficiency in optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, or Lumerical).
  • Experience with Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, and entanglement swapping protocols.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based time-tagging and coincidence counting electronics.
  • Knowledge of laser frequency stabilization techniques and non-linear optics (e.g., SPDC, frequency conversion).
  • PIC experience

The approximate base salary range for this position is $114,750 - $150,237. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.
