How much do remote optical transport engineer jobs pay per year?

As of May 31, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote optical transport engineer in the United States is $143,611.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $129,000.00 and $167,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Optical Transport Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Optical Transport Engineer, you need a solid background in optical networking, fiber optic communication, and network design, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, network management systems, and industry certifications like Cisco or Juniper is highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills are crucial for collaborating with teams and troubleshooting complex issues. These competencies ensure reliable, high-performance optical networks and efficient resolution of connectivity challenges in remote operating environments.

How does a Remote Optical Transport Engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to resolve network issues?

As a Remote Optical Transport Engineer, you will frequently work closely with on-site technicians and network operations center (NOC) staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to optical transmission equipment and fiber links. Communication is often managed through video calls, ticketing systems, and detailed documentation, requiring clear instructions and remote diagnostic skills. You'll analyze network alarms, interpret performance data, and guide on-site teams through hands-on tasks, making strong collaboration and communication abilities essential for success in this role.

What is a Remote Optical Transport Engineer?

A Remote Optical Transport Engineer is a telecommunications professional who designs, implements, monitors, and troubleshoots optical fiber networks from a remote location. These engineers are responsible for ensuring the reliable transmission of data over long distances using fiber optic technologies like DWDM, SONET, or OTN. They often work with network management systems, perform remote diagnostics, and collaborate with on-site technicians to optimize network performance. This role is essential for companies that rely on high-speed communications infrastructure, such as ISPs, data centers, and large enterprises.

What is the difference between Remote Optical Transport Engineer vs Network Operations Center (NOC) Technician?

AspectRemote Optical Transport EngineerNetwork Operations Center (NOC) Technician
Required CertificationsOptical certifications (e.g., CWNP, Cisco CCNA)Network certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA)
Work EnvironmentField and remote technical support for optical networksMonitoring and troubleshooting network systems in a control room
Industry UsageTelecommunications, fiber optic service providersInternet service providers, telecom companies
Job FocusMaintaining and optimizing optical transport equipmentMonitoring network performance and resolving outages

The Remote Optical Transport Engineer and NOC Technician roles share some certifications and industry environments but differ mainly in focus. The engineer specializes in optical network hardware and remote support, while the NOC technician concentrates on network monitoring and troubleshooting in a control room setting.

MODTRAN), XML data handling, image product formats (NITF, JPEG, etc.), AI/ML tools and "big data" analysis techniques. Responsibilities: * Perform studies and analysis to characterize and improve the quality of remote sensing data
* Coordinate calibration planning by leading weekly payload calibration meetings, generate calibration handbooks, master schedules, data dissemination CONOPS, readiness plans, success criteria, and readiness review execution plans
* Manage collaborative sites for calibration activities; create, populate, and maintain data repositories to allow distributed teams to access required data and collaborate on execution
* Deliver and publish radiometric data, sensor characterization reports, and calibration task out briefs
* Fully analyze and report findings of calibration truth data, characterize and report accuracy
* Maintain and update scripts, processes and data required for calibration assessment and monitoring
* Conduct analysis to validate test and transition of capabilities
* Coordinate with external stakeholders to develop future capabilities, requirements updates and planning
* Monitor and assess enterprise product and data integrity
* Lead independent enterprise investigations of anomalous product quality performance and produce analysis to expedite problem identification and resolution
