Job description

Role: Network Engineer
Location: Englewood, CO  
Schedule: Hybrid (4 days onsite)
Rate: $55/hour W2
We are seeking a Senior Optical Transport Engineer with deep hands-on expertise in Ciena and Nokia optical transport platforms. This role will focus on advanced configuration, provisioning, troubleshooting, and operational support of a large-scale optical transport network. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working directly with Ciena equipment, with Nokia experience strongly preferred. Candidates with strong hands-on experience performing complex troubleshooting, network provisioning, and engineering change deployment activities will be highly sought after.
Key Responsibilities
  • Configure, provision, maintain, and troubleshoot optical transport network infrastructure.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of transport network outages, performance degradation, and service-impacting incidents.
  • Support implementation of engineering designs, network expansions, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Execute and support EDPs (Engineering Design Packages/Procedures) and other network implementation activities.
  • Provision optical services and transport circuits across the network.
  • Monitor network health and performance to ensure service reliability and availability.
  • Validate network configurations and perform operational readiness testing.
  • Collaborate with Network Operations, Engineering, and Field Services teams during deployments and maintenance events.
  • Support network upgrades, software loads, circuit turn-ups, and service activations.
  • Maintain technical documentation, network records, and implementation procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Optical Transport Engineering experience.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Ciena optical transport platforms.
  • Strong experience with Nokia optical transport platforms.
  • Proven experience performing advanced configuration and troubleshooting within optical transport environments.
  • Experience provisioning, testing, and supporting transport circuits and services.
  • Strong understanding of DWDM, ROADM, OTN, and carrier-grade transport technologies.
  • Experience supporting maintenance activities, migrations, and network implementations.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex optical transport issues.
  • Experience working in telecommunications, carrier, service provider, or large enterprise transport environments.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver, or related Ciena transport platforms.
  • Experience with Nokia 1830 PSS or comparable Nokia transport solutions.
  • Knowledge of optical performance monitoring, wavelength management, and circuit provisioning.
  • Experience supporting large-scale backbone or carrier transport networks.
