Job description

About Generation:
At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.
When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed. Three months after completing our program, graduates have an 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings. Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation's global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.
JOB OBJECTIVES
We are seeking a highly organized and analytically strong Risk & Compliance Specialist to support the Global Director of Risk & Compliance in designing, implementing, and enforcing compliance frameworks across a growing international nonprofit network.
This role will play a critical part in operationalizing legal, regulatory, and policy requirements across jurisdictions, with particular attention to nonprofit compliance, tax-exempt status considerations, governance standards, and risk mitigation. The Specialist will help drive network-wide alignment on global policies and controls, while ensuring appropriate localization for country-specific requirements.
The ideal candidate brings experience in compliance, legal operations, or audit, and is comfortable working in a highly centralized model with global stakeholders, managing documentation-intensive processes, and exercising sound judgment in regulated environments.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Global Governance, Entity Management & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support establishment and lifecycle management of legal entities, including registrations, filings, renewals, and governance documentation
  • Coordinate with external counsel, registered agents, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with jurisdiction-specific regulatory and nonprofit requirements
  • Maintain centralized, audit-ready governance records (e.g., bylaws, board documentation, tax filings)

2) Nonprofit Compliance, Tax-Exempt Status & Policy Implementation
  • Monitor organizational activities to ensure alignment with tax-exempt requirements and mission-related objectives
  • Support UBIT risk mitigation and guidance on permissible revenue-generating activities
  • Drive rollout and adherence to global compliance policies, ensuring alignment with local legal obligations and documented deviations

3) Third-Party Risk, Due Diligence & Documentation
  • Execute due diligence processes for vendors, partners, and financial institutions (e.g., KYC, sanctions screening)
  • Manage documentation for onboarding, banking, and governance changes
  • Strengthen documentation standards and identify gaps in compliance controls

4) Compliance Operations, Controls & Risk Management
  • Maintain compliance trackers, dashboards, and reporting tools to monitor risk and compliance status
  • Support development of internal controls, SOPs, and workflows to demonstrate regulatory compliance
  • Assist with enterprise risk assessments, mitigation tracking, and audit readiness

5) Investigations, Incident Management & Regulatory Reporting
  • Support internal reviews and investigations, including documentation and reporting
  • Coordinate regulatory notifications and reportable events (e.g., data breaches) in alignment with global protocols
  • Handle sensitive matters with high confidentiality and professionalism

6) Regulatory Monitoring, Governance & Cross-Functional Support
  • Monitor and synthesize regulatory developments (e.g., GDPR, AI regulations) and support policy updates
  • Coordinate board governance processes, disclosures, and compliance documentation
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, HR, Finance, and others on worker classification, grants, and compliance matters

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in compliance, legal operations, audit, risk, or advisory roles, ideally in regulated or multi-jurisdictional environments
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance processes, and documentation standards
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to translate complex requirements into structured processes

PREFERRED:
  • Experience in nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations
  • Experience operating independently and managing complex, cross-functional processes
  • Exposure to entity management, corporate governance, or regulatory filings
  • Experience working with external counsel, regulators, or auditors
