About the Role

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to provide AI/Cloud Modernization support the Department of Housing and Urban Developmentโ€™s Office of the Chief Information Officer (HUD OCIO).

The Senior DevOps Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and operationalization of HUDโ€™s DevOps platform and cloud-native capabilities. This role will support AI/ML modernization efforts by establishing automated pipelines, containerized microservices, data pipelines, and secure cloud infrastructure. This role collaborates closely with HUD infrastructure, operations, and AI/ML teams to ensure scalable, production-ready solutions.

This is a fully remote position supporting a federal government contract that requires a federal background check and NACI clearance. Candidates must reside in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab, or Azure DevOps for software development, DevOps, and ML Ops initiatives.

  • Establish and manage automated workflows for build, test, and deployment processes.

  • Configure and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure) to support new capability development.

  • Develop and manage microservices, containerization, and declarative APIs.

  • Implement data pipelines (Apache Kafka) and automated data validation routines.

  • Support HUD in maturing architectures, technology stacks, coding standards, version control strategies, software integration points, and milestone plans.

  • Embed security in DevOps workflows in coordination with the Senior Security Engineer.

  • Document all processes, configuration management, and privacy/security compliance activities.

  • Participate in AI/ML proofs of concept and scale pilots into enterprise-ready systems.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

  • 7+ years of DevOps engineering experience, including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and automation.

  • 5+ years supporting federal IT modernization projects preferred.

  • Experience developing AI/ML-enabled solutions and scaling POCs to production-ready systems.

  • Expertise with microservices, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and API design.

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform).

  • Knowledge of federal security and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST RMF, OMB M-Memos).

  • Previous experience in regulated/federal government environments is a plus.

  • Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO preferred.

  • Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain and maintain both government clearance and customer approval.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
