Captioners work remotely using specialized software to ensure that captions are accurate and synchronized with the audio. This service is essential for making content accessible to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, and is commonly used for webinars, live streams, television broadcasts, and educational videos.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote online closed captioner?

To thrive as a Remote Online Closed Captioner, you need excellent listening skills, strong command of grammar and spelling, and fast, accurate typing—often supported by a relevant certification or experience in transcription. Familiarity with captioning software such as CaptionMaker, ENCO, or similar, as well as basic audio and video editing tools, is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and strong communication skills help captioners deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
