What are remote off grid jobs?

Remote off grid jobs are positions that allow individuals to work from locations that are not connected to traditional utilities like electricity, water, or internet. These jobs are often performed in rural, wilderness, or isolated areas, and commonly involve roles such as writers, software developers, consultants, or any other work that can be done with minimal infrastructure. Many people choose remote off grid jobs for the opportunity to live sustainably, reduce their environmental footprint, and achieve greater independence. Reliable internet access, power solutions like solar panels, and self-motivation are typically essential for success in these roles.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote off grid technician?

To thrive as a Remote Off-Grid Technician, you need expertise in electrical systems, renewable energy technologies (like solar and wind), and general mechanical troubleshooting, often supported by relevant technical certifications or degrees. Familiarity with solar panel installation, battery storage systems, inverters, and monitoring tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-reliance, and effective communication are vital for managing challenges in isolated environments. These abilities ensure reliable system performance and safety, which are crucial for maintaining off-grid infrastructure without immediate onsite support.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote off grid roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote off-grid roles often encounter challenges such as limited access to resources, communication difficulties, and isolation from larger teams. Addressing these issues typically involves using satellite internet or radio for reliable communication, maintaining comprehensive checklists for equipment and supplies, and establishing regular check-ins with supervisors or colleagues. Many organizations also provide specialized training for emergency preparedness and encourage participation in virtual team-building activities to foster a sense of community.

What is the difference between Remote Off Grid vs Remote Solar Installer?

AspectRemote Off GridRemote Solar Installer
CredentialsBasic electrical, renewable energy knowledgeElectrical certifications, solar installation training
Work EnvironmentRemote, off-grid locations, self-sufficient setupsRemote or on-site, installing solar systems in various locations
Industry UsageRenewable energy, off-grid living, sustainable projectsRenewable energy, solar power industry, residential/commercial projects

Remote Off Grid jobs focus on designing and maintaining self-sufficient energy systems in remote locations, often requiring general renewable energy knowledge. Remote Solar Installers specialize in installing solar panels and systems, typically needing specific certifications. While both roles work within the renewable energy sector, Remote Off Grid emphasizes off-grid living solutions, whereas Remote Solar Installers concentrate on solar system deployment.

Job description

Role purposeLead technology-readiness, feedstock/resource, system-integration, market, off-take, infrastructure, safeguards, finance, and pilot-to-scale assessments for advanced and emerging energy opportunities.Representative problems this role must solve
  • A hydrogen, biofuel, hybrid, distributed-energy, or emerging-technology concept is technically appealing but lacks credible readiness, feedstock, cost, infrastructure, off-take, or scale-up evidence.
  • Vendor advocacy substitutes for independent assessment of alternatives, failure modes, supply chain, lifecycle impacts, and bankability.
  • A sponsor needs a staged pilot, feasibility, technical-assistance, or investment pathway with explicit evidence and stop/go conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Assess technology readiness, reference performance, feedstock/resource, process/system design, infrastructure, supply chain, scale-up, market/off-take, lifecycle cost, safeguards, regulation, financing, and implementation.
  • Compare alternatives and test vendor/sponsor assumptions using independent evidence, sensitivities, maturity gates, and failure branches.
  • Define pilot/test, feasibility, demonstration, data, stakeholder, TOR, budget, schedule, acceptance, and scale-up requirements.
  • Integrate with power/grid, process engineering, finance, safeguards, country/regulatory, procurement, and supplier specialists.
  • Provide or coordinate independent technical review appropriate to the technology.
Minimum evidence-based qualifications
  • Senior technology development, engineering, commercialization, project development, feasibility, demonstration, diligence, or investment experience in hydrogen, biofuels, hybrid systems, distributed energy, or another relevant advanced-energy domain.
  • Evidence moving a technology from concept or pilot toward a defensible implementation/investment decision—or stopping an unsupported concept.
  • Experience evaluating scale-up, feedstock, infrastructure, market/off-take, cost, lifecycle, safety, and regulatory interfaces.
  • Emerging-market experience strongly preferred.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, with written attestation required before proposal inclusion.
  • Demonstrated senior/expert judgment supported by specific project, analysis, decision-product, or implementation evidence—not keyword familiarity alone.
  • Ability to produce concise, defensible written analysis in English and work across technical, commercial, financial, safeguards, institutional, and implementation interfaces.
  • Ability to become available for potential Indo-Pacific travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award, subject to assignment needs and Government direction.
  • Willingness to disclose availability, employment/contract restrictions, confidentiality obligations, conflicts, noncompetes, country/customer limitations, and relevant intellectual-property constraints.
Evidence to submit
  • Current résumé or CV with dates, employer/client, country, project stage, personal role, methods used, decision product, and outcome for the most relevant assignments.
  • Two to four representative projects demonstrating the required expert judgment and decision-grade products.
  • Countries/regions worked, languages used professionally, travel limitations, and current location.
  • Licenses, registrations, clearances, certifications, publications, or standards experience when relevant to the role.
  • Written permission for Axyde to use and evidence-preservingly reformat the résumé for solicitation 1131PL26R0056, subject to final résumé review if requested.
Application questions
  • Are you a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident? State one; do not upload identity documents at the application stage.
  • May Axyde use your name and evidence-preservingly tailor/reformat your résumé for this specific contingent proposal?
  • Could you become available for required Indo-Pacific travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award? Identify restrictions.
  • Identify current employment, contractual, confidentiality, noncompete, customer, country, or conflict restrictions relevant to this opportunity.
  • Describe the strongest decision product you personally led or independently reviewed and the decision it supported.
  • Identify the advanced-energy technologies and lifecycle stages where you can lead, contribute, or independently review.
  • Describe a technology-readiness or scale-up decision where independent evidence contradicted or materially qualified sponsor/vendor claims.
  • Provide one example of a pilot, feasibility, demonstration, commercialization, or investment scope you developed or reviewed.
Important contingent-opportunity noticeThis posting supports a competitive proposal and is not an offer or guarantee of employment, subcontract, assignment, hours, travel, or compensation. Candidate rate requests are collected separately, if requested later, and do not determine Axyde's proposal pricing. Do not submit passports, green cards, Social Security numbers, export-controlled information, customer-proprietary material, or third-party confidential information with the initial application. Axyde will request only the written confirmations and secure evidence needed for proposal release and lawful engagement.
Axyde Analytics, LLC considers qualified candidates without regard to protected status and will evaluate applicants against the evidence and operational requirements of the contingent role.
