Summary

  • You will serve as the installation subject matter expert and program manager for assigned operational, tactical, transportation, and off-duty safety programs under the general oversight of the Safety Director.
  • You will serve as the Alternate Program Manager and provide technical support and continuity for the following occupational safety and health programs administered by the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist.
  • You will support on-scene safety functions and formal mishap investigations by identifying contributing factors and assisting in the development of effective corrective action recommendations.
  • You will participate in safety stand-downs, safety councils, and command-level mishap review boards as required.
  • You will prepare and deliver formal classroom instruction, hands-on training, and safety briefings.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must possess a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing direct safety oversight to personnel during field-based training; conducting mishap investigations, supporting safety protocols for hazardous materials (ammunition/explosives) AND managing safety programs related to vehicle operations and mitigating risks associated with extreme weather conditions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:
Specialized experience may be substituted with a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology;
OR
an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
Additional information
You must possess or be able to obtain and maintain all required training and certifications for assigned program areas (e.g OSHA 30-hour, Fall Protection, Confined Space). Failure to obtain or maintain required certifications may be grounds for administrative action. Must be obtained withing 60 days of hire.
