Remote Objective C Developers focus specifically on Objective C programming for iOS apps, often working remotely. iOS Developers may work with both Objective C and Swift, and their role can include broader responsibilities. While both roles require similar skills and work environments, the Remote Objective C Developer role emphasizes expertise in Objective C specifically, making it ideal for projects maintaining legacy code or specific Objective C-based apps.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Objective C Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Objective C Developer, you need solid programming skills in Objective-C, experience with iOS/macOS development, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with Xcode, Cocoa frameworks, Git version control, and possibly Apple certification are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help developers excel in distributed teams. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, maintainable software and collaborating efficiently in a remote work environment.

What are Remote Objective C Developers?

Remote Objective C Developers are software professionals who specialize in writing, testing, and maintaining code in Objective C while working from a remote location. They typically build or maintain applications for Apple platforms, such as iOS and macOS, collaborating with teams using online communication tools. These developers need a strong understanding of Objective C, as well as frameworks like Cocoa and Cocoa Touch, and must be comfortable working independently and asynchronously. The remote aspect allows them to work from anywhere, often providing greater flexibility and access to a wider range of job opportunities.

How do Remote Objective C Developers typically collaborate with team members and manage code reviews in a distributed environment?

As a Remote Objective C Developer, collaboration is often achieved through a combination of regular video meetings, instant messaging platforms, and project management tools. Code reviews are usually conducted via platforms like GitHub or Bitbucket, where developers can submit pull requests and receive feedback asynchronously. It's important to maintain clear communication and thorough documentation to ensure everyone on the team is aligned, especially when working across different time zones. Adopting agile methodologies and using shared repositories help streamline the workflow and foster a supportive, collaborative environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an iOS Engineer based in Netherlands.

This is a senior mobile engineering opportunity focused on building and improving a large-scale iOS application used by millions of users.
You will work in a high-impact product environment where reliability, performance, and user experience are key priorities.
The role combines hands-on Swift development with architectural decision-making, technical collaboration, and continuous improvement.
You will partner with engineers, designers, and product teams to deliver scalable and intuitive mobile experiences.
This position offers the opportunity to influence iOS engineering standards while working on business-critical features.
You will contribute to a culture of ownership, knowledge sharing, and modern software development practices.
The role is ideal for an experienced iOS developer who enjoys solving complex challenges and building products at scale.

Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality iOS applications while contributing to technical excellence across the mobile engineering team. You will own features from concept to delivery and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create reliable, scalable user experiences.

  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade iOS applications using Swift across UIKit and SwiftUI codebases.
  • Deliver features through a continuous delivery approach, shipping incremental improvements to production.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and improve client-server communication.
  • Work closely with product managers and designers to transform ideas and designs into accessible, high-quality mobile experiences.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, including unit and integration tests.
  • Contribute to test automation, code reviews, refactoring efforts, and architectural discussions.
  • Help define and improve iOS development standards, patterns, and engineering practices.
  • Mentor and support other engineers by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify technical risks, communicate challenges early, and help implement effective long-term solutions.
  • Contribute to improving application performance, reliability, and overall user experience.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced iOS engineer with a strong understanding of mobile development practices, software architecture, and collaborative engineering workflows. You should be comfortable working independently while contributing to a high-performing product team.

  • Strong professional experience developing iOS applications using Swift.
  • Solid experience with UIKit and practical experience using SwiftUI in production environments.
  • Good understanding of iOS architecture patterns such as MVC, MVVM, VIPER, or similar approaches.
  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs, handling JSON data, and working with client-server architectures.
  • Hands-on experience writing unit tests using XCTest and a strong quality-focused mindset.
  • Familiarity with iOS CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as Fastlane or similar solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Git and modern collaborative development workflows.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English within a distributed team environment.
  • Experience working with Objective-C and maintaining or migrating legacy codebases is a plus.
  • Experience building high-traffic consumer applications is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of SwiftUI at scale, Combine, performance optimisation, crash monitoring, or mobile observability is a plus.
  • Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience is beneficial.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work flexibility.
  • Opportunity to work on a large-scale mobile application used by millions of users.
  • Collaborative and inclusive environment where ownership and responsibility are shared.
  • Agile culture where ideas, experimentation, and innovation are encouraged.
  • Opportunities to work on diverse projects and expand your technical skills.
  • Continuous training, mentoring, and professional development support.
  • Opportunity to explore and implement new technologies and solutions.
  • Travel opportunities and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Supportive culture focused on learning, improvement, and knowledge sharing.
