What is a remote oath?

A Remote Oath is a process where a person takes an official oath or affirmation remotely, often via video conference, instead of appearing in person. This is commonly used for legal, notarial, or governmental procedures where swearing in or affirming is required. Remote oaths have become more popular due to advances in technology and the need for remote services, especially during circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic. The process typically requires real-time audio-visual communication and may be subject to specific regulations depending on the jurisdiction.
