Idaho Power - located in vibrant Boise, Idaho - is looking for a Risk Analyst or Senior Risk Analyst to join our Treasury Services team. It's an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we're working hard to safely provide our customers with the safe, reliable, and affordable energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power's downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.

What does a Risk Analyst or Senior Risk Analyst do for us?

Risk Analysts identify, assess, and monitor Idaho Power's market and credit risk exposures across energy trading, commodity transactions, commercial agreements, and strategic business activities. They ensure compliance with risk policies and regulatory requirements, perform valuation and exposure analysis, monitor counterparty creditworthiness, and recommend risk mitigation strategies such as collateral, guarantees, and other credit support arrangements.

Senior Risk Analysts provide technical leadership for the risk function, serve as subject matter experts in market risk, credit risk, collateral management, and industry agreements (e.g., ISDA, NAESB, WSPP, and REC), mentor team members, support complex transactions and negotiations, and act as the primary risk resource in the manager's absence.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Derivatives, energy trading, collateral management, finance, and accounting
  • Utility finance/credit, NAESB, ISDA, WSPP, netting agreements, long-form confirmations, corporate guarantees, letters of credit and other related agreements with counterparties.
  • Collateral management practices, including assessment of unsecured exposure, collateral thresholds, negotiating credit support provisions, margining requirements, and the impact of collateral on counterparty credit risk.

Skills in:

  • Excellent organizational, planning, verbal and written communications with strong attention to detail
  • Expert-level complex risk scenarios analysis and works effectively with internal and external partners
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to draft contracts and agreements
  • Analyzing documents and data for conformance to established policies and procedures
  • Conducting research and provide thoughtful, thorough analysis
  • Maintain objectivity and confidentiality
  • Experience with VBA, SQL, and Power BI

Ability to:

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative financial analysis
  • Analyze financial health of counterparties
  • Meet deadlines and prioritize work
  • Defend decision-making criteria with other departments or counterparties
  • Balance commercial responsiveness with prudent credit and/or risk expectations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Risk Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical field (finance, accounting, economics, or a related field)

Preferred:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Experience:

  • 3 or more years of directly related experience credit, risk, or commodity risk management including in-depth analysis of financial statements

Preferred:

  • Professional experience in risk management or back-office banking operations supporting credit and risk management functions, including in-depth analysis of financial statements, evaluation of creditworthiness, risk monitoring, exposure assessment, and compliance with credit policies

Senior Risk Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical field (finance, accounting, economics, or a related field)

Preferred:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Experience:

  • 6 or more years of professional experience in credit, risk, or commodity risk management including in-depth analysis of financial statements

Preferred:

  • 7 years or more of industry specific experience in credit risk management

Licenses & Certifications:

  • N/A

Preferred:

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
