Remote Node.js developers collaborate with teams using communication and project management tools to ensure smooth workflow. These roles offer flexibility but require strong self-discipline and time management skills.

Senior Software Engineer / Cloud Engineer - Fully Remote
Alphanumeric is hiring a Senior Software Engineer / Cloud Engineer (Functional Consultant - Level 3) to support our client of over 20 years, a global leader dedicated to improving lives through medical and pharmaceutical innovation.

Location: Fully Remote - Eastern Time Zone preferred
Pay Range: $80-$90/hour W2

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong cloud engineering expertise to join a collaborative team responsible for building reliable, scalable, secure, and efficient applications.
This is not a traditional cloud infrastructure or DevOps-only position. Software engineering experience is a core requirement. The ideal candidate combines hands-on application development with strong knowledge of modern cloud platforms and Infrastructure as Code.
As a senior technical contributor, you will take loosely defined business and technical requirements, translate them into well-defined technical solutions, and architect and build those solutions through implementation.
You will work alongside talented engineers in a highly collaborative environment that values curiosity, innovation, pairing, continuous improvement, and pragmatic engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into well-designed software solutions and technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain production-quality software within modern cloud environments.
  • Design solutions across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and/or Amazon Web Services (AWS), with GCP strongly preferred.
  • Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
  • Partner with product teams, software engineers, cloud engineers, and internal and external stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to system design, implementation, testing, security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Support modern CI/CD and automated deployment practices.
  • Participate in Agile development activities, technical design discussions, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Champion secure engineering practices and contribute to continuous improvement across the engineering organization.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline; Master's or PhD welcomed.
  • Approximately 8-10+ years of relevant software/cloud engineering experience or equivalent experience.
  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience is required.
  • Experience developing production applications, backend services, APIs, microservices, or other cloud-native software solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform:
    • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) - strongly preferred
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Strong experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience working within an Agile software development environment.
  • Ability to independently architect and build solutions from loosely defined business or technical requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on Rust programming experience.
  • Experience with Python, Go, or other modern software development languages.
  • Kubernetes and containerization experience.
  • Cloud infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Experience developing cloud-native applications and microservices.
  • Pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated-industry experience.

Why Join?
This is an opportunity to combine software engineering and cloud engineering while supporting innovative work within a leading global pharmaceutical organization. You'll join a collaborative engineering environment where technical quality, security, curiosity, and continuous improvement are highly valued.

If you're a hands-on software engineer with strong cloud expertise who enjoys solving complex problems and building scalable cloud-native solutions, we'd love to hear from you.
