What Does a Remote Node js Developer Do?

A remote Node.js developer works from home as part of a back end programmer team, whose responsibilities are to ensure that the movement of data between the server and front end users is seamless. As a remote Node.js developer, your duties are to develop and write code or web application logic in JavaScript, work with other team members to troubleshoot coding problems, and collaborate with QA analysts during testing. You collaborate with front end developers and UX designers as well. In this role, you work primarily in a virtual environment and communicate via email, live chat apps, and video conferences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Node.js Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Node.js Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js frameworks (such as Express), and a solid understanding of back-end development principles, usually supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and containerization tools (Docker) is typically required, along with relevant certifications being advantageous. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are critical soft skills for effective remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills and qualities are essential to efficiently build, maintain, and scale robust applications while working independently in distributed teams.

How do Remote Node.js Developers typically collaborate with distributed teams to ensure project success?

Remote Node.js Developers often work closely with cross-functional teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and continuous integration practices are common to maintain alignment and code quality. Communication skills are vital, as much of the coordination happens asynchronously. Being proactive in sharing updates and asking questions helps ensure smooth progress and timely delivery of features.

What is a Remote Node.js Developer?

A Remote Node.js Developer is a software professional who specializes in building server-side applications using Node.js, a popular JavaScript runtime. They work remotely, meaning they perform their duties from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or anywhere with internet access. Their primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable web applications, APIs, and backend services. Remote Node.js Developers collaborate with distributed teams, use version control systems, and often communicate through online tools. This role requires strong JavaScript skills, knowledge of Node.js frameworks, and the ability to work independently.

What is the difference between Remote Node Js Developer vs Remote Front End Developer?

Common Search IntentRemote Node Js Developer vs Remote Front End Developer

The main difference between a Remote Node Js Developer and a Remote Front End Developer lies in their focus areas. The Node Js developer specializes in backend development, working with server-side JavaScript, APIs, and databases. In contrast, the Front End Developer focuses on creating the visual and interactive aspects of websites or applications. Both roles often collaborate but require different skill sets and tools, making them distinct yet complementary positions in web development teams.

Job description

Lead EngineerAI Infrastructure / Backend Engineering | USA RemoteUS-based candidates only|Visa sponsorship is not available.

We are representing an early-stage technology venture building AI-powered workflow, governance, and data infrastructure for a large-scale decentralized finance ecosystem. The company is creating advanced tools that help technical and operational teams manage complex knowledge systems, automate governance workflows, and support risk analysis through reliable data infrastructure.

This is a confidential search for a senior, hands-on engineer who can operate across backend systems, data pipelines, AI agent infrastructure, and product foundations.

The Role

This is an opportunity to join a high-impact technical team as a Lead Engineer, owning the architecture and delivery of core automation systems, data infrastructure, and AI-augmented tools for complex decision-making workflows.

You will build backend services, integrations, data pipelines, and interfaces that help automate governance processes, improve traceability, and enable analysts and AI agents to work with structured, reliable information. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys 01 engineering, high-ambiguity environments, and end-to-end ownership.

What You'll Do
  • Build and own production-grade backend systems using TypeScript, Node.js, and supporting languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java.
  • Design automation workflows that connect structured documents, databases, third-party systems, and governance processes.
  • Build reliable importers, exporters, validation layers, change tracking, and hierarchical diffing systems.
  • Develop data pipelines that ingest blockchain, market, protocol, pricing, and third-party API data.
  • Design schemas for chain data, market data, and protocol state with strong data quality and historical accuracy.
  • Create data infrastructure that can be queried by AI agents for risk analysis and business intelligence.
  • Build monitoring, alerting, validation, observability, and rollback paths for production systems.
  • Develop foundations for advanced knowledge-work interfaces, including tree explorers, document review workflows, preview systems, and consistency checks.
  • Contribute to AI agent infrastructure, including tool definitions, execution environments, provenance tracking, and guardrails.
  • Help design systems for data integrity, provenance, permissions, and temporal querying.
  • Drive engineering milestones independently while communicating risks, tradeoffs, and progress clearly.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience building production backend or server-side systems.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Working proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Rust, or Java.
  • Advanced SQL skills and strong relational data modeling experience, ideally with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience building data pipelines that integrate with third-party APIs.
  • Strong systems thinking and comfort working across backend services, data infrastructure, and product-facing tooling.
  • Experience shipping iteratively with tests, observability, monitoring, and clear rollback strategies.
  • Ability to lead technical work in a high-ambiguity startup environment.
  • Comfort operating remotely in a distributed team.
  • Strong written communication and ability to coordinate across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Notion, Supabase, or similar workflow/database tools.
  • Experience building automation or data infrastructure for complex technical platforms.
  • Exposure to blockchain, DeFi, governance systems, risk analytics, or financial infrastructure.
  • Experience with AI agent infrastructure, tool-use systems, provenance tracking, or guardrails.
  • Experience with large-tree interfaces, document diffing, knowledge graphs, spatial canvases, or advanced knowledge-work tools.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic proof systems, Merkle trees, commitment schemes, event sourcing, or permission systems.
  • Open-source contributions in TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Go, or Rust.
  • Prior 0-1 startup engineering experience.
Why This Role Is Exciting
  • Own foundational systems for a technically ambitious AI and data infrastructure platform.
  • Work on hard engineering problems across automation, data quality, AI tooling, and governance workflows.
  • Build systems where correctness, traceability, provenance, and reliability genuinely matter.
  • Operate with significant autonomy in a senior, hands-on technical leadership role.
  • Join at an early stage with the opportunity to shape architecture, engineering practices, and product direction.
  • Work at the intersection of AI agents, decentralized finance, risk analytics, and advanced knowledge-work interfaces.
  • Build tools used for real-world decision-making in a complex, high-stakes technical environment.
Work Model
  • Full-time role.
  • USA remote.
  • US-based candidates only.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available.
