Remote Neural Network Engineer information

What is a remote neural network engineer?

A Remote Neural Network Engineer is a specialized software engineer who designs, develops, and maintains neural network models while working from a remote location. They use deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch to build algorithms that mimic the human brain for tasks like image recognition, natural language processing, and predictive analytics. These engineers collaborate with teams virtually and leverage cloud computing resources to train and deploy models. The role requires strong programming, mathematical, and analytical skills, as well as experience working in distributed team environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote neural network engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Neural Network Engineer, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and deep learning principles, often supported by a relevant degree and prior experience in AI or machine learning roles. Proficiency in programming languages like Python, frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and familiarity with cloud computing platforms are essential, and certifications in machine learning can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective remote communication are key soft skills for collaboration and independent work. These skills and qualities ensure the engineer can design, implement, and optimize neural network solutions efficiently while contributing effectively to distributed teams.

How does a remote neural network engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams when working from a distance?

As a Remote Neural Network Engineer, collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as data scientists, software engineers, and product managers—is primarily facilitated through virtual communication platforms and project management tools. Regular video meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation are essential to ensure alignment on project goals and progress. Clear communication and proactive sharing of updates are crucial to overcoming the lack of in-person interaction. Additionally, remote engineers often use collaborative coding environments and version control systems to streamline joint development efforts and maintain code quality.

What is the difference between Remote Neural Network Engineer vs Data Scientist?

AspectRemote Neural Network EngineerData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, AI, or related fields; experience with neural networks and deep learning frameworksBachelor's or Master's in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields; proficiency in data analysis and machine learning
Work EnvironmentRemote, tech companies, AI research labsRemote or on-site, diverse industries including finance, healthcare, tech
Industry UsagePrimarily in AI, machine learning, and deep learning projectsData analysis, predictive modeling, business insights

While both roles involve working with data and machine learning, a Remote Neural Network Engineer specializes in designing and implementing neural network models, often requiring deep learning expertise. A Data Scientist focuses on analyzing data to extract insights, using a broader set of tools including statistical methods and machine learning. The roles overlap in skills but differ in focus and application.

Job description

Overview

Location: Can be Remote within a 2 hour drive; Office located in Downtown Pittsburgh (free parking)

Job Type: Full time

Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Green Card

A.C.Coy is currently seeking candidates for a Sr. Python Developer/Team Lead role. This individual will lead the development of next-generation applications that combine robust backend systems, intuitive front-end experiences, and comprehensive visibility

Our ideal candidate will have 5+ years of full stack Python experience, deep expertise in Monitoring and Observability across application, infrastructure, and network layers, and hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools and agentic workflows.

This stable, growing company offers an attractive salary, along with a comprehensive benefits package, generous paid time off, company-paid holidays, and a 401K plan. Remote employees will work EST hours and travel to the Pittsburgh office occasionally for meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop full-stack applications using Python (Django) and modern front-end frameworks
  • Build and evolve observability and telemetry capabilities across application and network layers (metrics, logs, traces/events)
  • Develop resilient ingestion and processing services that transform raw operational signals into actionable insights for Network Operations and Engineering
  • Implement alerting, dashboards, and SLO/SLA reporting practices that reduce noise and accelerate incident response
  • Lead incident response support, root cause analysis, and performance tuning using observability data
  • Deliver production-ready software using GitHub-based SDLC practices (code reviews, CI/CD, automated validation, safe releases)
  • AI-assisted development focus: leverage AI-assisted coding tools and agentic workflows to accelerate delivery while ensuring correctness, security, and full observability of system behavior and outputs
  • Mentor developers and promote a culture of observability-driven development and operational excellence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Network Engineering, Operations/NOC, Product/Business) to align solutions with service reliability, performance, and business goals

Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years of experience in software development; 5+ years in full-stack Python development
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Django; experience delivering and supporting production web applications
  • 1+ years of experience steering/leading development efforts as a Team Lead, Project Manager, Product Owner, or similar
  • Solid front-end experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React or Vue) and building user-friendly operational UIs
  • Demonstrated experience implementing observability for production systems (metrics, logs, traces/events, alerting)
  • Proven experience with Claude Code, Replit Agent, or similar AI-assisted coding tools
  • Strong experience with AWS services (or equivalent) and operating services in production environments.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous/background processing and event-driven patterns (queues/workers/caches)
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools and/or agentic workflows in real development (with guardrails, testing, and observability)

Preferred:

  • Proven experience building or integrating with network monitoring and observability platforms
  • Ability to design scalable data pipelines for ingestion, normalization, storage, and retrieval of telemetry
  • Experience integrating with infrastructure/network telemetry sources and/or monitoring platforms
  • Strong SDLC discipline: GitHub workflows, CI/CD, automated testing, and operational readiness practices
