The US base salary range for this full-time position is provided below:
Salary Range: $93,750 - $175,000
L3: $93,750 - $125,000
L4: $123,750 - $175,000
The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.
This is a full-time remote position. Employees may work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states of the United States
Travel is up to 20%. Employees will be required to occasionally travel to our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX for in person meetings. Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF.

As a Network Software Engineer I/II you will leverage your passion for solving challenges to empower your business partners to achieve their goals by building automated network infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing and troubleshooting a highly converged IP network.
Key responsibilities may include:
  • Develop and operate cloud-native systems, networks, and services using GitOps workflows
  • Build and operate network infrastructure and management systems
  • Collaborate with internal application teams to improve infrastructure usability and feedback
  • Help design and run systems that scale across our data centers, edge locations, and public cloud
  • Demonstrate operational excellence by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues, including participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Basic Qualifications
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant expereince.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of network engineering.
  • Exposure to designing and building large-scale networks.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a remote team environment.
  • Experience with Switching and Routing Protocols such as Spanning Tree Protocols, OSPF, BGP, etc.
  • Knowledge using Infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python.
  • Exposure with automation using device API's.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with at least one major network operating systems, including Cisco IOS, SONiC, Arista EOS, or similar networking platforms.
  • Experience with firewall policy management.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Experience in Rail, Shipping, Airline, Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, or other Transportation industries.
