How to Become a Remote NET Developer?

To become a remote .NET developer, you need to have several qualifications, including education, years of professional experience, and a range of analytical and creative problem-solving skills. A bachelor’s degree in computer science is the most common degree, although a degree in information technology, statistics, or a closely related technical subject may suffice. You should also have strong programming skills in .NET, as well as other languages, such as C#, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. If you work from home, you need strong communication skills and a reliable internet connection.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote .NET Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote .NET Developer, you need strong proficiency in C#, ASP.NET, and object-oriented programming, usually backed by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms such as Azure is typically required, along with certifications like Microsoft Certified: .NET Developer being advantageous. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for effectively collaborating and delivering quality code in a remote environment. These competencies ensure that remote developers can produce robust solutions, work efficiently with distributed teams, and adapt to evolving project needs.

How does a Remote .NET Developer typically collaborate with team members and manage communication across different time zones?

Remote .NET Developers often work with distributed teams, making effective communication crucial. Collaboration is usually managed through tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms such as Jira or Azure DevOps. Regular video meetings, clear documentation, and overlapping work hours help ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals and progress. Adapting to asynchronous communication and being proactive in sharing updates are common practices to overcome time zone differences and maintain productivity.

What are Remote .NET Developers?

Remote .NET Developers are software professionals who specialize in building, maintaining, and optimizing applications using the .NET framework, all while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They leverage technologies such as C#, ASP.NET, and other Microsoft tools to create web, desktop, or mobile applications. Working remotely, they collaborate with team members through digital communication and project management tools. This role requires strong technical skills, good communication, and the ability to work independently.

Job description

FIRM OVERVIEW

BBR Partners is a boutique wealth management firm providing customized investment strategies and bespoke advice to high-net-worth individuals and families. Our clients are comprised of the brightest minds in the financial and investing worlds, entrepreneurs, business owners, leaders, and influential families who entrust us with the holistic care of their fiscal well-being. The firm was founded in early 2000 and for over 25 years has nurtured our culture with talented people from diverse backgrounds who care about each other, our clients, and our collective communities. In our quest for continuous improvement, we strive to develop not only world class talent, but world class humans!

POSITION OVERVIEW

BBR Partners is seeking a Data Engineer to contribute to the build-out and ongoing maintenance of our modern data infrastructure, which supports investment, research, and operations capabilities across the firm. This role focuses on building well-tested, business-ready datasets in dbt and Snowflake, translating financial domain logic from legacy systems into clean, documented models that serve teams across the firm. The ideal candidate has a solid technical foundation, an eagerness to grow, and direct experience working with data in the securities, wealth management, or financial services industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain data models in dbt, implementing tests, documentation, and lineage tracking as standard practice.
  • Translate business logic from legacy SQL Server systems into clean, tested dbt models as part of ongoing platform modernization.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver investment, portfolio, and client data across the firm.
  • Build and optimize analytical datasets in Snowflake to support reporting and business intelligence.
  • Write and maintain Airflow DAGs, Python, SQL for scheduled and event-driven workflows, following CI/CD practices for deployment.
  • Collaborate across engineering, analytics, and business teams – integrating into a firm where everyone contributes beyond their lane.
  • Identify manual or fragile processes and build automated, sustainable replacements. Own problems end-to-end.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting (Datadog) to catch pipeline failures and data quality issues before they reach stakeholders.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team engineering standards

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4+ years of experience in data engineering roles.
  • Required: Strong Python and SQL. Comfortable writing production code, not just notebooks.
  • Required: Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud warehouse. Working knowledge of SQL Server - able to read and reverse-engineer stored procedures, views, and legacy logic. Hands-on Airflow/Python ETL tooling preferred.
  • Required: Prior experience working with financial services data. Candidates must demonstrate meaningful exposure to relevant data domains such as securities identifiers (tickers, FIGI, CUSIPs, ISINs), client portfolios, positions and holdings, performance reporting, or fund operations. Experience at a wealth manager, asset manager, hedge fund, or market/alternative data provider strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal direction. Proactive problem-solver who acts on gaps without waiting for assignment.
  • Experience with dimensional modeling and data warehouse design patterns.
  • Able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders clearly and without jargon.
  • Preferred: Experience with the following technologies: dbt, Docker, Terraform, Azure, GitHub Actions, Datadog.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Opportunity to collaborate with accomplished colleagues in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
  • Competitive base salary and incentive compensation.
  • Company subsidized health, dental and vision insurance for employee, partner, and dependents.
  • 401K plan, Life insurance, and short & long-term disability coverage.
  • One Medical membership (covered for employee and dependents), Employee assistance program (EAP), Gym reimbursement and other wellness offerings.
  • Pre-tax transit and parking programs, Health Savings Account (HSA) and flexible spending programs for medical and dependent care.
  • Personalized development and career opportunities.
  • Flexible time off, paid parental leave, and opportunity for Sabbatical with company tenure.
  • Hybrid remote work environment, "Work from Anywhere" weeks, and casual dress.
  • New office space with a variety of perks and amenities including catered lunches and stocked pantry.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Base salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple reasons, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The expected base salary for the role will generally be between $110,000-$125,000 per year at the commencement of employment, but the final salary offered may be outside this range based on these reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, base salary is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include discretionary bonuses, alternative incentive packages and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

We value and seek diversity of thought and equity of representation. The environment at BBR is inclusive of all, collaborative and endlessly curious. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
