The Estimator 3 serves as a senior member of the preconstruction team—responsible for leading complete estimating efforts on large, complex projects. This position requires sound judgment, deep market understanding, and a proactive approach to risk management, pricing strategy, and mentoring others.

Location:

Denver, Colorado – Opportunity for occasional remote work when fully trained and oriented. Local travel to jobsites required (via driving).

Responsibilities:

  • Exemplify the Carlton Core – core values and purpose.
  • Attend job/site walks with customers.
  • Lead estimating strategy for large, complex, or high-visibility projects.
  • Strengthen and develop customer relationships with current customers.
  • Leads client-facing proposal and preconstruction presentations.
  • Support strategic company initiatives through superior customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Produce accurate, competitive, and profitable bids and proposals.
  • Develops and refines scope narrative and proposal content.
  • Help ensure processes are effective and efficient.
  • Mentors Estimator 1 and Assistant Estimator roles.
  • Utilize proper time management to ensure highest and best use of time.
  • Work as a team to schedule and delegate tasks to meet customer deadlines.
  • Keep accurate records of documents and communications, including but not limited to drawings, specs, quotes, emails, etc.
  • Utilize Accubid and LiveCount to accurately project costs.
  • Provide detailed breakdowns of the project during takeoff.
  • Leads design-build pursuits and conceptual budgeting.
  • Gather material quotes from vendors and service quotes from subcontractors.
  • Leads internal reviews and provides final approval on takeoffs and pricing strategy.
  • Oversees full bid strategy, scoping, and risk review.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings with project managers and field operations.
  • Create initial budget with the project manager and foreman to be used for tracking the progress of the project.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-8 years of electrical estimating experience required.
  • Experienced and comfortable with bidding commercial jobs ranging from $200K - $10M.
  • Market experience in the following commercial sectors: Light Industrial, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Mision Critical, K-12 Education, Higher Education Fire Alarm, Aerospace, Municipality, Office, Warehouse.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam required.
  • Hunger for growth, knowledge and further personal/professional development required.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check required.
  • Design-Build and Design-Assist experience preferred.
  • Electrical field experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Accubid and LiveCount preferred.
  • Proficiency with database management preferred.
  • Intermediate/Advanced computer skills required (MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, etc.).
  • Proficient and professional reading and writing skills required (emails, grammar, punctuation, etc.).

Reporting:

The Electrical Estimator 3 reports to the Chief Estimator.

Compensation Package

Schedule: Schedule: General working hours of Monday-Friday 7:00AM – 4:30PM. Flexible hours, but work may require nights and weekends depending on project needs.

Pay Rate: $110,000-$130,000+ depending on experience. *

*This pay rate is the good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of this job posting. Carlton Electric reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted rate if they believe the new range is determined in good faith. Carlton Electric reserves the right to adjust compensation based on, but not limited to, approved factors such as seniority, merit, quantity and/or quality systems, location, education and/or training, and required travel.
