Remote Narrative Designer information

What is a remote narrative designer?

A Remote Narrative Designer is a professional who creates and develops the story, dialogue, and world-building elements for video games or interactive media while working from a location outside the traditional office setting. They collaborate closely with game designers, writers, and developers to craft immersive and engaging narratives that enhance the player's experience. Remote Narrative Designers often use digital communication tools to coordinate with teams and ensure the story integrates smoothly with gameplay and visual design.

How does a remote narrative designer typically collaborate with other team members during the game development process?

As a Remote Narrative Designer, you'll frequently collaborate with writers, game designers, artists, and developers through digital communication tools such as Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms. Regular meetings and brainstorming sessions are essential for aligning story content with gameplay mechanics and visual direction. Clear documentation and timely feedback are crucial for ensuring your narrative aligns with the overall vision, especially when working across different time zones. Building strong communication habits and being proactive in sharing updates will help you integrate smoothly with the rest of the team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote narrative designer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Narrative Designer, you need expertise in storytelling, scriptwriting, and interactive narrative structure, often supported by a background in creative writing or game design. Familiarity with game engines (such as Unity or Unreal), collaborative tools (like Google Workspace or Slack), and narrative design software (e.g., Twine, Inklewriter) is commonly required. Strong communication, adaptability, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for managing remote collaboration and feedback. These competencies ensure cohesive, engaging narratives that align with gameplay and team goals, even in a distributed work environment.

How much do remote narrative designers make?

Remote narrative designers typically earn between $50,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of projects. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in storytelling and game development can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $100,000. Compensation may also include benefits such as flexible schedules and remote work allowances.

Job description

The Company:

VeSync is a portfolio company with brands that cover different categories of health & wellness products. We wouldn't be surprised if you have one of our Levoit air purifiers in your living room or a COSORI air fryer whipping up healthy and delicious meals for you every night.

We're a young and energetic company, we've had tremendous success, and we are constantly growing our team. You'll establish and evolve design systems that enable consistency and efficiency, partner closely with cross-functional teams to align usability with business goals, and champion design excellence across the organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned designer who thrives in collaboration, obsesses over detail and craft, and is passionate about creating technology that empowers healthier, more meaningful experiences.

Applicants must include a portfolio of their work when applying.

1. End-to-End Product Design

2. Design Systems & Scalable Practices
Establish scalable patterns, components, and reusable assets to accelerate design execution.
Improve design tooling, documentation, and workflows to support team efficiency.
Define and document design principles that reflect the brand, mission, and product values.
Ensure design decisions support product scalability, consistency, and long-term maintenance.

Partner with User Research to integrate consumer insights throughout the product lifecycle.
Collaborate with Wellness Researchers to translate scientific insights into human centered interactions.
Present work to stakeholders with clarity, empathy, and data-informed rationale, connecting design decisions to user and business outcomes.
Advocate for user needs, accessibility, and design excellence across product, engineering, and business teams.
Collaborate with marketing, content, and brand teams to ensure a unified product narrative.
Mentor and support junior designers, elevate team craft, and foster a culture of design critique, storytelling, and collaboration.
What you bring to the role:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, HCI, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 6-10+ years of experience in UX or product design, ideally in health, wellness, fitness, or consumer tech.
