What is a remote musician?

Remote musicians are professional or amateur music artists who perform, record, compose, or collaborate on music projects from a location outside of a traditional studio or venue, often from home or a personal studio. They use digital tools and online platforms to connect with other musicians, producers, and clients worldwide. Remote musicians may be hired for session work, live-streamed performances, recording tracks, or teaching music lessons online. This flexible arrangement allows musicians to work with people globally, expanding their opportunities and creative collaborations.

How do remote musicians typically collaborate with producers and other artists on projects?

Remote musicians often use digital audio workstations (DAWs), cloud storage, and communication tools like Zoom or Slack to collaborate with producers and fellow artists. Tracks and project files are shared online, allowing each contributor to record, edit, and provide feedback asynchronously. Clear communication, organized file management, and timely updates are essential to ensure a smooth workflow and maintain creative alignment, even when team members are in different time zones.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote musician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Musician, you need strong musical proficiency, self-discipline, and a solid understanding of music theory, often backed by relevant training or experience. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), recording software, and collaboration platforms like Zoom or Soundtrap is essential. Creativity, time management, and excellent communication skills help you connect with clients and collaborators worldwide. These skills ensure high-quality music production, effective remote teamwork, and ongoing professional opportunities in a virtual environment.

Corporate General Ledger Accountant Job Description
Ensemble Performing Arts, a high-growth consolidator of performing arts businesses, is seeking a detail-oriented Corporate General Ledger Accountant to join our corporate accounting team. This is a remote, full-time position (40 hours per week) reporting to the Corporate Controller.
This role sits at the corporate level of a multi-entity organization and is responsible for the integrity of the consolidated general ledger. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, is comfortable working across dozens of legal entities, and can move fluidly between detailed reconciliations and higher-level consolidation work. This position partners closely with Division Controllers and the Corporate Controller to deliver an accurate and timely monthly close.
Key Responsibilities
  • General Ledger Ownership: Maintain and monitor the corporate and consolidated general ledger, ensuring transactions are recorded completely, accurately, and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monthly Close: Own the monthly close process for corporate and consolidated entities, including:
    • Prepare, review, and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries for corporate and holding company entities, including payroll, prepaid expenses, corporate depreciation and amortization and ASC 842 lease costs.
    • Support the multi-entity consolidation process, including intercompany eliminations, intercompany balancing, and mapping of division-level results into consolidated financials.
    • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations for corporate cash, all payroll, prepaid corporate expenses, fixed assets, intangible assets and lease accounts.
    • Maintain fixed asset and intangible asset schedules, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and amortization, and support purchase accounting entries related to acquisitions.
    • Own assigned close tasks and deadlines within the corporate close calendar, ensuring the consolidated close is completed timely and accurately each month.
  • Division Controller Support: Serve as a resource to Division Controllers on corporate accounting policy, chart of accounts structure, and proper treatment of transactions to ensure consistency across the portfolio.
  • Audit & Compliance: Support the annual external audit and any tax or lender-requested schedules by preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). CPA or active pursuit of CPA licensure strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with consolidations across multiple legal entities preferred.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (NetSuite preferable) and consolidation tools.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and large dataset management).
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal control concepts.
  • Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit-ready documentation.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across corporate and division-level teams.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.

Compensation & Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $70,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. A competitive benefits package is provided, including a 401(k) with employer match; health, vision, and dental benefits; and Paid Time-Off.
