Description
The Nurse Learning Specialist is a 10-month, remote position with employee benefits offered for the full year. This position is grant-funded through September 30, 2026. While we anticipate grant renewal, continuation of the role is dependent on future grant funding.

The Nursing Learning Specialist supports the mission and philosophy of SUNY Corning Community College and assists pre-licensure nursing students with mastery of didactic and clinical learning concepts. The Nursing Learning Specialist supports and augments the educational process by contributing to the development and continuous improvement of educational curriculum through best practice to enhance academic success. This position generally runs August through May.
Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required.
Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing, in a Typical Office Environment.

Essential Functions
Educational Duties (80%) -
  • Plans and implements individual and small group learning sessions to facilitate students' study skills, understanding and applying of nursing content, and test-taking strategies.
  • Demonstrates current, detailed and accurate knowledge of concepts tested by the NCLEX-RN as well as currency in nursing practice.
  • Communicates and documents (reporting) students' academic progress toward achievement of student and program learning outcomes.
  • Serves as a liaison with instructional staff in multiple subject disciplines. Work with faculty to provide nursing students with needed study skills.
  • Refers students to services and resources on campus.
  • Works with Library building staff to provide collaborative and cohesive academic support services, materials, and equipment.
Program Development (15%) -
  • Collaborates with Director of Nurse Education and Nursing Faculty in ongoing planning and evaluating of the effectiveness of the learning sessions.
  • Works closely with Director of Nurse Education to understand curriculum of Nurse Education program.
Other duties as assigned (5%) -
  • Complete activities as assigned by the Director of Nurse Education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other software
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekend hours, as required
  • Valid driver's license for travel to off-campus sites, as necessary
  • This position may be remote, with the arrangement subject to regular evaluation and may be adjusted or discontinued based on performance, operational needs, policy, and overall effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current New York RN nursing license
  • Recent work experience in a healthcare setting, with maintenance of clinical competency
Preferred Qualification:
  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Work experience in teaching or tutoring at the college level
  • Mentoring experience within the nursing field
