Job description

MDW Associates is seeking a full-time Drupal Developer to support the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Consolidated Applications and Platform Services (NCAPS) contract. The candidate will be part of a team where complex problem solving and communication skills are critical to success.

This role is 100% remote.

The Drupal Developer may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:

  • Upgrade an existing Drupal application from Drupal 9.x to Drupal 11. The effort begins with a discovery and assessment of the existing application, followed by pre-upgrade planning, execution of the core upgrade, code and module remediation, testing, content validation, production deployment, and delivery of updated documentation. The goal is a secure, fully functional Drupal 11 platform with no regression to existing functionality.
  • Must understand and develop with 508 compliance in mind.
  • Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum team environment, participating in sprint planning, daily standups, and iterative delivery. Team will consider applicants from across the country with the understanding that the team operates on eastern time.
  • Partner with NASA Product Owners to gather and understand customer requirements, ensuring solutions align with mission needs and stakeholder expectations.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Hands-on Drupal development and administration experience, with demonstrated ability to execute major version upgrades.
  • Proficiency in PHP and Drupal APIs, including experience remediating deprecated API usage.
  • Experience with custom Drupal module and theme development.
  • Familiarity with Drupal 11 architecture, Symfony components, and Twig templating.
  • Experience with contributed module evaluation, compatibility assessment, and replacement strategies.
  • Knowledge of web security principles, SSL/TLS configuration, and Drupal security hardening.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and stakeholder engagement.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience with Drupal 9.x and/or 10.x to Drupal 11 upgrade projects in a government or enterprise environment.
  • Experience providing development support on legacy Drupal applications, including module modernization and codebase remediation.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and testing tools.
  • Experience with NASA systems or other federal government web platforms.
  • Experience with performance tuning, database query optimization, and caching strategies in Drupal.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with cross-browser and mobile device compatibility testing.
  • Familiarity with content migration strategies and URL redirect management.

Education Requirement(s):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Management Systems or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
