The qualifications and skills that you need to start an Android developer internship include active enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program. Development companies that offer internship programs seek applicants who are pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field. Some opportunities also exist for students in associate degree programs. Since Android developers use Java, employers may expect you to already have an understanding of the coding language. Some employers ask to see examples of applications that you have completed during your studies. Your school may have an agreement with certain development companies, so ask your professors and department heads about intern opportunities.
| Aspect | Android Developer Internship | Android Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science or related field; some knowledge of Java/Kotlin | Professional experience; strong proficiency in Java/Kotlin; often a portfolio of apps |
| Work Environment | Internship programs, often in tech companies or startups; supervised learning | Full-time employment; collaborative team environment |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Entry-level roles in tech companies, startups, or agencies | Established companies, product teams, or freelance projects |
The main difference is that an Android Developer Internship is an entry-level, learning-focused position for students or recent graduates, while an Android Developer role requires professional experience and a proven track record in app development. Internships serve as a stepping stone toward becoming a full Android Developer.
