What is a remote Military Transition Assistance Program?

A Remote Military Transition Assistance Program is a support service designed to help military members transition from active duty to civilian life, delivered virtually rather than in person. These programs offer online resources, counseling, job search assistance, resume writing workshops, and guidance on benefits. They are accessible from anywhere, making them especially valuable for service members and their families who may be relocating or stationed remotely. The goal is to ensure a smooth and successful move into civilian careers and life.

What are some common challenges faced in a remote Military Transition Assistance Program facilitator role, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for remote TAP facilitators is maintaining high engagement and participation levels among transitioning service members, who may be spread across different time zones and have varying access to technology. To overcome this, facilitators often use interactive virtual platforms, schedule flexible session times, and provide clear, accessible resources. Building rapport remotely requires proactive communication, regular check-ins, and a supportive approach tailored to each participant's unique transition needs. Collaborating closely with other TAP team members and external partners also helps ensure participants receive comprehensive, coordinated support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Military Transition Assistance Program specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Military Transition Assistance Program Specialist, you need a background in career counseling, knowledge of military-to-civilian transition processes, and often a relevant degree or certification in counseling, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with virtual counseling platforms, career assessment tools, and job placement databases is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal communication, empathy, and organizational skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills are essential for effectively supporting service members as they navigate career changes and integrate into civilian employment.

Job description

Veteran Admissions Specialist - Veteran Education Programs
$72k - $108k
Overview
NGT Academy was founded by two U.S. Air Force veterans who spent years training military IT engineers - and we're on a mission to place 1 million people into tech careers by 2030. This role exists to help fellow veterans use their military education benefits to launch IT careers. You'll guide service members through enrollment in our university partnership programs, helping them understand their benefits, address their concerns, and decide if working together is the right next step. If you've served, you already understand what these students are going through. That's why we strongly prefer a veteran for this role.
What You'll Own
- Veteran enrollment consultations via Zoom and phone - explaining programs, benefits eligibility, and career outcomes
- Military education benefits navigation - helping veterans understand how to use their benefits through our university partnerships (often at no out-of-pocket cost)
- Your pipeline - tracking all prospects in CRM, following up consistently, nurturing leads who need time to decide
- Conversion targets - meeting weekly/monthly KPIs
- Objection handling with veteran-specific empathy - addressing concerns about career change, time commitment, and whether tech is realistic for them
- Student support coordination - working with Student Success on withdrawals and questions as needed
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Completed training on all programs, systems, and military education benefits
- Connected with university partnership contacts and understand the enrollment flow
- Consistently meeting or approaching weekly enrollment targets
- Built organized follow-up systems in CRM with veteran-specific notes
- Received positive feedback from enrolled veterans on their consultation experience
About NGT Academy
Backed by Y Combinator (W18) and $18M+ from top Silicon Valley investors, we've earned 800+ five-star reviews on Trustpilot. Our students go from zero experience to job-ready in 4 to 6 months - not 4 years.
Requirements
You're a Fit If
- You're a U.S. military veteran (strongly preferred - you'll connect with prospects in ways others can't)
- You have sales, recruiting, or admissions experience - or strong customer-facing experience you can translate
- You understand military education benefits or are eager to learn the veteran education benefit landscape quickly
- You genuinely want to help fellow veterans succeed - this isn't just a job, it's a mission
- You're organized and self-directed - you manage your pipeline without micromanagement
- You handle objections with patience - career change is scary, and you get that
- You actively seek coaching and feedback - our best performers are always improving
Bonus Points
- Experience working with veteran populations or military transition programs
- Familiarity with veteran education benefits
- Background in EdTech, career services, or training enrollment
Benefits
Why NGT Academy
- Veteran-to-veteran mission: Founded by Air Force veterans. Serving veteran students. You're helping people who served their country build their next career.
- Product that works: Backed by Y Combinator (W18) and $18M+ from top Silicon Valley investors. 800+ five-star Trustpilot reviews.
- Clear earning potential: $72K - $108K+ annually. Structure: $36K base annual compensation with the opportunity to partake in company success through monthly and quarterly bonuses.
- Impact you can see: Every veteran you enroll is someone who served their country and is now building a tech career. You'll know them by name.
