Job description

Cybersecurity Engineering Specialist

Vantage Point Solutions, a growing and dynamic telecommunications consulting and engineering firm, is seeking a qualified individual to join our team of professionals. We have an immediate opening for a Cybersecurity Engineering Specialist.

Overview:

VPS is seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Specialist with a passion for information security, risk management, and consulting. The Cybersecurity team works with organizations across multiple industries to assess cybersecurity risks, improve security programs, and assist clients with meeting regulatory and industry expectations. Team members are exposed to a wide variety of technologies, environments, and security challenges while working alongside experienced cybersecurity professionals.

This role is an entry-level to mid-level cybersecurity position responsible for supporting client engagements, performing security assessments, contributing to internal security initiatives, and assisting with the development of security documentation and processes. As a Cybersecurity Specialist, you will work on a diverse range of projects including vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, policy reviews, social engineering engagements, compliance assessments, and technical security reviews. The candidate will be expected to manage multiple assignments concurrently while maintaining a high level of quality, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in and conduct cybersecurity assessments, including:
  • Vulnerability Assessments
  • Penetration Assessments
  • Policy reviews
  • Social Engineering engagements for phishing and vishing
  • Technical network reviews for clients
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity team members and cross-functional departments to evaluate risks, recommend solutions, and implement process improvements.
  • Research emerging threats, vulnerabilities, technologies, and industry best practices to support client and organizational security initiatives.
  • Support vulnerability management activities, including identifying, validating, documenting, and tracking remediation of security findings.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of security policies, standards, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to internal and client requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
  • Communicate technical cybersecurity concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of assessment methodologies, security tools, and team knowledge through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Willingness to travel at least once per year to Mitchell, South Dakota, and occasionally for client engagements, training, or team meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, investigate, and communicate cybersecurity risks effectively.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles including vulnerability management, access control, network security, endpoint security, and risk management.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality work products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, security concepts, compliance frameworks, and assessment methodologies.
  • Position is subject to a successful background check.
  • Depending on experience, the position will either be onsite in Mitchell, SD, or remote.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer information systems, computer science, or a related field is required.
  • Experience performing or assisting with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, policy reviews, risk assessments, or compliance reviews is preferred.
  • Familiarity with common security frameworks and standards such as NIST CSF & SP 800-53, CIS Controls, CMMC, SOC 2, or FFIEC guidance is preferred.
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Experience with security tools such as vulnerability scanners, endpoint security platforms, SIEM solutions, or phishing assessment platforms is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Linux, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, and cloud technologies is preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a network administration role or similar position preferred.
  • Security+, CySA+, or similar certification preferred.
