Job description

We are hiring an experienced Technical Researcher to support the global mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a technical research specialist, you will apply both research methods and data science techniques to accomplish various research goals and strategies. This role is a mix of research, technology, and problem-solving. The work will involve various phases of the research process as part of a support operations team. Thispositionsupports the Correlation Research Division's (CRD) assignment to provide timely, relevant, and reliable information to General Authorities and Church administrators. This information helps Church leaders in responding to diverse challenges and opportunities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, sociology, statistics, data science, economics, cognitive science, instructional design, or another social science discipline).
  • 3-4 years of professional research experience using data science and applying research methods.
  • Candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered at a lower grade level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of research design, statistics, and quantitative analysis.

  • Proficiency with data visualization tools including Qualtrics, Tableau, PowerBI, etc. 

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and/or programming languages (e.g. Python, R, SPSS, Stata, SAS, SQL, JavaScript). 

  • Understanding research sampling strategy, response bias, validity, and reliability.

  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in conducting research globally with cross-cultural contexts. 

  • Proficiency with survey data collection software (e.g. Qualtrics). 

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, including strong writing skills. 

  • Expertise in using software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and to manage competing tasks, deadlines, and requirements.

  • Ability to think critically, problem solve, modify approaches in consideration of practical concerns. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment. 

  • Understanding of a culture outside of the United States. 

  • Language abilities in English and another common language spoken by Church members is highly valued. 

WORK LOCATOIN & SCHEDULE 

  • Anticipated hybrid schedule: In office Thursday; remote Monday-Wednesday/Friday (subject to change by Correlation leadership).
  • Must live or be willing to relocate to the Wasatch Front.
  • Apply research methods, data analytics, and technology for displaying complex data sets that inform strategy and decision making. 

  • Understand research sampling techniques to ensure statistical validity and minimize bias. 

  • Consult with research partners to clarify research needs and recommend appropriate data collection methods.

  • Provide expert consultation on Qualtrics software including survey formatting, technical details and project support for using new/advanced features.

  • Process sample requests for generating member and leader contact lists. 

  • Create and maintain processes for displaying data using dashboarding software. 

  • Create and manage a process for tracking survey response rates. 

  • Manage survey distributions through email, web/app intercepts, SMS text, WhatsApp, etc.).  

  • Create message templates (e.g. invitations, reminders, subject lines, graphics, and data privacy footers, etc.).

  • Support global research strategies that include various participant demographics, geographies, and cultures.  

  • Seek innovative ways of solving problems.
