A Remote MERN Stack Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building web applications using the MERN stack—MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js—while working remotely. They handle both frontend and backend development, integrating databases, server-side logic, and user interfaces. By working remotely, they collaborate with teams and clients through digital communication tools, enabling companies to access talent from any location. The MERN stack is popular for creating fast, scalable, and modern web applications, making this role highly sought after in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote MERN stack developer?

To thrive as a Remote MERN Stack Developer, you need expertise in JavaScript, MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js, and a solid understanding of full-stack web development principles, usually demonstrated through a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Heroku), and continuous integration tools is typically expected, and certifications in JavaScript or cloud services can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate virtually set standout candidates apart. These skills ensure you can build robust, scalable applications while working independently and effectively within distributed teams.

How do remote MERN stack developers typically collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote MERN Stack Developers often work with globally distributed teams, which requires clear communication and effective collaboration tools. Job description

About the Company

We're a fast growing mortgage lender using AI to automate the loan lifecycle and modernize the borrower and broker experience.

The Role

We're seeking an AI Engineer to build and deploy AI agents and automation across the mortgage lifecycle, using AI workflow tools, MCP, AWS Step Functions, and Lambda across a multi cloud AI stack (OpenAI, Anthropic, GCP, Azure).

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Salary range: $140,000 to $165,000 annually, depending on experience

  • Build cloud based process flows and integrations using AI workflow tools, MCP, Step Functions, and Lambda, connecting to platforms like LOS, CRM, and POS.
  • Integrate LLMs to support underwriting automation, including document classification, condition management, and routing.
  • Reverse engineer existing systems to identify automation opportunities.
  • Perform data analysis on structured and unstructured mortgage data.
  • Partner with SMEs, product managers, and data teams to scope and iterate on automation targets.
  • Use AI coding tools daily (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, Devin, or equivalent) as a core part of your workflow, not occasional autocomplete. Be ready to walk through real examples in the interview.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in AI application development, automation engineering, or full stack cloud engineering.
  • Hands on experience with agentic frameworks, LLM integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, GCP, or Azure AI/ML services), and AWS Lambda/serverless architecture.
  • Experience with AI workflow orchestration tools, MCP, and third party AI integrations.
  • Proficiency in Python and JavaScript, plus RESTful APIs and cloud native integrations.
  • Familiarity with LangChain, Transformers, or similar AI/ML libraries, and SQL/pandas for data analysis.
  • Mortgage or fintech automation experience a plus.
