Job description

Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is the oldest conservation and recreation organization in the United States. Our mission is simple yet powerful: foster the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors. With a focus on protecting mountains, forests, waters, and trails throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, we envision a world where our natural resources are healthy, loved, and always protected, and where the outdoors occupies a place of central importance in every person's life.

The Membership Coordinator plays an important role in helping AMC grow and engage its community of members. Reporting to the Senior Director of Membership, this position combines member service, data analysis, campaign support, and operational excellence to strengthen the membership experience and help advance AMC's mission.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, providing exceptional customer service, and working collaboratively across departments to build meaningful relationships with members.

While this is a remote role location is flexible only within the AMC's footprint.

What You'll Be Doing at AMC

  • Analyze membership acquisition, retention, renewal, and engagement data to identify trends, opportunities, and recommendations that strengthen member growth and lifetime value.
  • Develop and maintain member cohort analyses, dashboards, and recurring reports that support strategic decision-making across the Membership, Marketing, and Development teams.
  • Prepare monthly reports for AMC Chapters, providing Chapter Membership Chairs with insights into active members, new members, renewals, and lapsed memberships.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for member inquiries, delivering timely, accurate, and friendly customer service via phone, email, and other communication channels.
  • Manage day-to-day membership operations, including membership processing, account maintenance, benefit fulfillment, renewals, and issue resolution.
  • Support membership acquisition and renewal campaigns through audience segmentation, data preparation, quality assurance, reporting, and campaign performance analysis.
  • Partner with the Membership, Marketing, and Development teams to execute annual member fundraising appeals that inspire members to deepen their support of AMC's conservation and outdoor recreation mission.
  • Support the project management of various membership related projects and initiatives including technology implementations, events, member communications, etc.
  • Monitor member engagement across programs, volunteer opportunities, events, lodging, and other touchpoints to identify opportunities to increase participation and long-term retention.
  • Maintain the integrity of membership data within Salesforce and related systems, ensuring accurate records, reporting, and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Recommend process improvements that increase operational efficiency and improve the overall member experience.
  • Assist with additional membership projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
