Staff Software Engineer - Medical Devices

The Health Solutions Business Unit at Analog Devices is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain cloud-native backend platforms supporting connected medical devices and digital health solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of scalable, secure, and reliable cloud services that support healthcare applications operating in regulated environments.

The successful candidate will collaborate across engineering and cross-functional teams to build backend systems supporting medical device connectivity, data management, remote monitoring, and clinical workflows. This role requires strong experience in backend application development, distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, and AWS cloud services, along with an understanding of security, privacy, and compliance requirements for healthcare products. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with experience building products from concept to market, capable of solving complex technical challenges and delivering scalable, high-quality software that supports patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native backend services supporting connected medical devices, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), and digital health solutions.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud platform services.
  • Develop secure, reliable, and maintainable backend applications using Java, Python, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Design and implement cloud solutions leveraging AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, Cognito, and related platform technologies.
  • Contribute to backend platform development throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and development through validation, deployment, and post-market support.
  • Design and implement secure APIs, authentication, authorization, encryption, audit logging, and data protection mechanisms supporting HIPAA and healthcare security requirements.
  • Support software verification and validation activities in accordance with regulated medical device development practices, including FDA expectations and applicable industry standards.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, infrastructure-as-code solutions, and cloud deployment processes.
  • Support the reliability, performance, monitoring, and operational readiness of cloud-based production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, backend development, cloud engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing backend applications using Java, preferably with Spring Boot, as well as Python. Experience with Node.js is a plus.
  • Experience developing and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, Cognito, and related cloud technologies.
  • Experience building distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven applications.
  • Experience with containerized applications and orchestration technologies such as ECS, EKS, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of software architecture, scalability, performance, and reliability considerations for backend systems.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling and performance optimization.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code, and modern software development practices.
  • Understanding of application security principles, authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure software development practices.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA requirements and healthcare data privacy and security controls.
  • Experience working in regulated environments and supporting software development within structured quality processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Additional Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience developing connected medical devices, healthcare software platforms, digital health applications, or Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) solutions.
  • Experience supporting FDA-regulated products and familiarity with relevant standards and guidance, including IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and FDA cybersecurity guidance.
  • Experience building products from concept through commercialization, including early-stage (0-to-1) product development.
  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards and integrations such as HL7, FHIR, Epic, or related healthcare systems.
  • Experience supporting cloud platforms that enable AI-powered or AI-assisted healthcare solutions.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks and technologies, including OWASP best practices, OIDC, SAML 2.0, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex software products with scalable, maintainable, and reliable architectures.
