As our Inpatient Coder II, you will code and abstract complex inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement, and research, directly contributing to our organization's financial health and mission.
Every day you will meticulously code and enter diagnostic and procedure codes into the designated system using the 3M encoder, navigate the EMR efficiently, and ensure all coding meets advanced quality and productivity standards across all facilities.
To be successful in this role, you will possess advanced inpatient coding expertise, a strong understanding of complex diagnostic and procedure codes, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to meet high productivity and quality standards within a fast-paced and supportive environment.

  • Accurately assigns codes from the current Coding and Indexing systems for inpatient accounts, creates DRG assignments while adhering to coding guidelines, regulations, and a compliance plan.
  • Responsible for coding all high dollar accounts (defined as >$100K), including interim coding accounts and rehabilitation accounts.
  • Accurately abstracts pertinent information from inpatient records into the designated computer system and utilizes reports/work queues effectively for follow up.
  • Must be able to code all service lines of IP accounts.
  • Meets quality and productivity standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency of designated coding and abstracting system, 3M encoder, online resources, and electronic medical record (EMR).

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credentials (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC), required or must be certified within One Year of hire
  • A minimum of four (4) years coding experience preferably in an inpatient acute care setting OR a minimum of two (2) years' experience 
  • Must demonstrate competency of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment
  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS and Coding Modifiers
  • Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e.3M)
