Position Details Position Status: Part time Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift (United States of America) Hours per week: 24 Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Overview Behavioral Health is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. Psychiatric nursing is the care of acute and chronic illnesses in a variety of settings, helping prepare patients and families for safe discharge and therapeutic continuum of care. Psychiatric nurses adapt the nursing process to include de‐escalation skills, safety, assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses when caring for patients. Education and Licenses Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Licenses and Certifications: Registered Nurse (KSBN); multistate license allowing practice in Kansas. Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required within 90 days; additional RQI's may be required within 90 days. Preferred Skills and Abilities Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning Strives to manage situations in a manner that minimizes risk to the patient and the institution Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non‐verbal and written methods Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations Job Responsibilities Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems and issues Identifies expected outcomes for an individualized plan Develops a collaborative plan to achieve expected outcomes Implements the plan through coordination of care and strategies that promote health and wellness Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring Promotes a respectful environment that encourages exchange of ideas, supports effective professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in daily work Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice Mentors nurses new to their role for orientation, competence and emotional support Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities Commits to lifelong learning through critical thinking, self‐reflection, and inquiry for personal growth and development Participates and leads nursing practice in process evolution of the professional practice model Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence‐based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health Performs other duties as assigned Remote Work Guidelines Patient facing.
