Remote Math Publishing information

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote math publishing, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote math publishing often encounter challenges such as ensuring clear communication with authors, editors, and designers across different time zones and maintaining precision in mathematical notation and formatting. These challenges can be addressed by using specialized collaboration tools (like LaTeX editors and project management platforms), establishing regular check-ins, and developing strong documentation standards. Additionally, proactively seeking feedback and engaging in peer review helps maintain accuracy and quality in published content.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Remote Math Publishing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Remote Math Publishing, you need strong mathematical knowledge, excellent writing skills, and a background in mathematics or education, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with publishing software such as LaTeX, Adobe InDesign, and content management systems, as well as experience with online collaboration tools, is typically required. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing projects and working with distributed teams. These competencies ensure the creation of accurate, accessible, and high-quality math content for diverse audiences in a remote environment.

What is the difference between Remote Math Publishing vs Remote Math Content Developer?

AspectRemote Math PublishingRemote Math Content Developer
Required CredentialsDegree in Mathematics, Publishing, or related fieldDegree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
Work EnvironmentPublishing companies, educational publishers, online platformsEducational institutions, e-learning companies, content creation firms
Employer & Industry UsagePrimarily publishing and educational content providersPrimarily educational technology and curriculum developers
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding publishing roles in math educationCreating and developing math educational content

Remote Math Publishing focuses on producing, editing, and managing math educational materials for publishers and platforms. In contrast, Remote Math Content Developers create and design math content, lessons, and resources for educational technology companies and schools. Both roles require strong math skills and often similar credentials but differ in their primary focus—publishing versus content creation.

What is remote math publishing?

Remote math publishing involves creating, editing, and producing mathematical content, such as textbooks, research articles, or educational materials, from a remote location rather than in a traditional office setting. Professionals in this field typically work with authors, educators, or publishers to ensure mathematical accuracy and clarity in the materials. The role often requires strong math skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with software tools for typesetting mathematical notation like LaTeX. Remote math publishers may also be responsible for peer review, formatting, and ensuring content meets publication standards.

Job description

Responsibilities
Candidate should have technical experience in image analysis of remote sensing systems data (PAN, IR, MSI, HSI, LIDAR, RADAR, etc.). Examples of relevant experience include radiometric or thermometric analysis, sensor/atmospheric calibration, MTF and SNR assessments, exploitation algorithm development, signal/image processing, modeling and simulation, and Fourier analysis.
Candidate must possess familiarity with image processing and software tools such as ENVI/IDL, MATLAB, or Python. Other beneficial skills could include experience with atmospheric radiative transfer models (e. g. MODTRAN), XML data handling, image product formats (NITF, JPEG, etc.), AI/ML tools and "big data" analysis techniques.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform studies and analysis to characterize and improve the quality of remote sensing data
  • Coordinate calibration planning by leading weekly payload calibration meetings, generate calibration handbooks, master schedules, data dissemination CONOPS, readiness plans, success criteria, and readiness review execution plans
  • Manage collaborative sites for calibration activities; create, populate, and maintain data repositories to allow distributed teams to access required data and collaborate on execution
  • Deliver and publish radiometric data, sensor characterization reports, and calibration task out briefs
  • Fully analyze and report findings of calibration truth data, characterize and report accuracy
  • Maintain and update scripts, processes and data required for calibration assessment and monitoring
  • Conduct analysis to validate test and transition of capabilities
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders to develop future capabilities, requirements updates and planning
  • Monitor and assess enterprise product and data integrity
  • Lead independent enterprise investigations of anomalous product quality performance and produce analysis to expedite problem identification and resolution

Qualifications
Required:
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a TS/SCI Clearance with Poly.
  • Bachelor's degree with 10-12 years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 8-10 years, or PhD with 5-7 years in Image Science, Optics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical analysis of EO remote sensing data; image processing and digital signal processing experience; image chain analysis
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills; demonstrated ability to clearly explain technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability and success working independently and in team environments
  • Customer focused and capable of representing the customer in user outreach, familiarity activities and community forums
  • Experience developing/modifying engineering code in at least one of Python, MATLAB, ENVI/IDL or similar to solve hard problems and create processes for repeatable results

Desired:
  • Bachelor's degree in Image Science, Optics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering with 15 or more years of relevant experience, or master's degree with comparable experience
  • Project management or leadership experience
  • Experience working on product initialization teams
  • Experience with one or more of PAN, IR, MSI, HSI, LIDAR, or RADAR systems and analysis
  • Experience developing/modifying engineering code in multiple of Python, MATLAB, ENVI/IDL or similar to solve hard problems and create processes for repeatable results
